As far as I can tell, Coach Stenuf has done a fabulous job with both Olemomoi & Lemngole throughout 2023-24. After three years at AL, Hilda's times and consistency--on the podium in almost every race, every season--place her in rarefied space occupied by all-time greats, yet she is rarely interviewed post-race and announcers/podcasters still stumble over her last name. It wouldn't shock me if this move is less about training and trophies and more about money. Maybe she sees Valby, Markezich, Ramsden, May, Flockhart, Halladay-Lowry and Bunnage making bank, hears through athlete chat that even women she's been dusting all year are getting paid, and finally decides It's time to get mine.
But who knows? Perhaps she's just starting to think seriously about pro running and believes now is a good time to make a change for any number of reasons. As a fan, it would be exciting to see Olemomoi land at a program with multiple returning XC All-Americans. Or at one with an entering U20 World XC Champs bronze medalist.
