What a joke. A woman who has never run a NYRR race, even though she lived in NYC, crapping all over the top finishers at the Olympic trials.
”Her toes are pointed slightly outward.”
That’s how the human body is structured.
“Her arms are too low. That costs a lot of energy.”
Keeping your arms flexed also costs a lot of energy as your biceps are continuously contracted.
Arm swing at Marathon pace is largely passive. You only start really pumping when you get down to anaerobic paces.
Yeah. I thought Fiona's stride looked beautiful and relaxed the entire race. Especially in comparison to Keira D'Amato, with her weird posture and arm swing. D'Amato looks like her back is curved backward with her chest out. How is that efficient? I noticed Rooker has a similar form. I'm glad Keira didn't make it.
A lot of how you look running is determined by your structure and musculature.
Yes, there are some basics like good posture and not overstriding but the nitpicking done by these so-called experts is worthless and often just wrong.
Here's Jan Gruenke's stride analysis. The camera JG uses is jumping around, which makes it harder to appreciate the almost total lack of vertical motion in O'Keefe's hips.
I'm genuinely surprised at the grudging tone of the posts in this thread. O'Keefe, who I knew nothing about, caught my eye early for the ease and fluidity of her stride, even as her low hand carriage seemed less efficient. But my goodness: she got stronger as the race went on, pulled away effortlessly, and seemed to glide over the ground with zero pounding. I'd love to hear Jan Gruenke on her biomechanics.
In her first marathon, a major national championship, she wins and sets the event record, beating the American record holder, Emily Sisson, by 30 seconds. It's surely one of the top-3 American women marathon debuts of all time. What's not to love about this?
She absolutely bossed this field. I see 10 threads on everyone else but none on her. My apologies if I missed it.I don't see her repeating what Molly did but she's made for this event. Great debut!!
Fiona O'Keeffe, Emily Sisson, and Dakotah Lindwurm made the 2024 US Olympic Marathon team in the Olympic Trials in Orlando. Running form expert Jae Gruenke ...
Ah, I see now that the video's already been shared, along with the usual potpourri of comments. See if this background information clears up some of the misunderstanding:
Years ago, when I wrote my first few running form analysis blog posts of elite runners, I was careful to make a few clarifications about the whole undertaking. Over the years I remembered to do this less often, thinking my re...
Sets the Oly Trials RECORD in her marathon debut?!? Are you kidding me?!? Tell me this actually happened without telling me this actually happened! C'mon, man!
I am relatively new to marathoning, training for Boston currently, my third. Just wanted to say I am in complete and total awe of the courage, confidence and grit Fiona portrayed out there. Have a profound respect and admiration for her, and so inspired to continue racing. What an incredible athlete, power embodied. I don’t know enough about her, but so curious to learn more. Such a strong performance, I got goosebumps when she broke the tape.
