totally hear your point on this. from citius's mag pov though they have to protect themselves and not come off as disrespectful so they're really left with no choice but to write "american record"..."they american record" doesn't really work as well lol
Leftists absolutely hate when people name the issue.
It is therefore particularly important to continue using perfectly well understood diction like this, since the Leftist's power is in redefining language to be meaningless and/or fit their frame. Continue!
Throwing terms around like "leftists" is just as meaningless - and unhinged.
Another perfect example. They hate when you call them what they are.
I noticed this back when Nikki Hiltz ran the women’s mile AR. look at all of their other American record posts, they’ll always add “men’s American record” or “women’s American record” except when Hiltz is involved. They’ll either just say “American record” or what they did on X(formerly known as Twitter)
What a joke! If they/them doesn’t want a women’s American record then they shouldn’t run in the women’s race! but the woke running “fans with phones” won’t call a spade a spade.
Holy sh*t WHO CARES?? I can’t believe there’s 5 pages devoted to this. Any word spoken on this is an absolute waste of breath.
No one is going to get confused about Nikki running an American record. If they are confused they could figure it out in a matter of seconds

Citius clearly cares, otherwise they would call her excellent effort the Women's record.
The larger point is the Leftist's weaponization of language. And how it is a losing strategy to acquiesce to endless redefinitions and reframes that only ever benefit their delusions.
This shouldn't count as a record. Hiltz says she's not a female, so she shouldn't get a female record.
It's not the same as identifying as a man; there's a burden of proof to prove you're a male. But if someone says they're not 40, you don't give them a masters' record anyway.
False. Nikki Hiltz is female and always will be. Brue Jenner is a male and always will be. Not only should she not be forced to compete in the men's category, she should be forbidden from doing so unless you want to have two categories - open and female which may be the route we have to take.
I think many of the tweets are absurd - particularly the runnerspace one. It's not the fastest 1000 ever - plenty of HS boys have gone faster.
Now as a personal courtesy, I'm willing to call Bruce Caitlyn just like I'm willing to call many Robert's Bob if they so desire. Along those lines, Weldon long ago said we should respect desired pronouns on LRC forums but I think now he and I are both wondering if that's the case. Society can't exist without a respect for objective facts and the idea that Lia Thomas is a female is absurd. The idea that Nikki Hiltz is anything other than a female is equally absurd. Females can only set women's records end of story.
If Patrick Mahomes declares tomorrow that he's a she, would ESPN write glowing articles about how we finally have a dominant female QB? I wish some conservative leaning NFL star would do that just to make a mockery of the absurdity of it.
We live in a wild world. Elizabeth Warren has native American DNA in her family but she's not allowed to call herself a Native American while Lia Thomas has no male DNA in her but it's mandated that woman swim and shower with her?
And did you see what's happening in Canada? They allowed a 50-year old biological male to swim and shower with 13-year old females?
The writer made sure to phrase the sentences so at least one “they” could be added as a virtue signal. Kara Goucher likes to do the same thing in live commentary.
it is all virtue signaling. If we want to acknowledge she broke an American record we have to acknowledge that she broke either the female or women's record. Whatever you want to call it, otherwise Hiltz didn't break a record.
The record is not Hiltz's personal record or what she identifies as but for American women. Changing the description of the event - which is for women and includes women - out of deference to how she chooses to describe herself is misplaced. It doesn't respect the women who choose to compete in the event, which is a "women's" event and not a non-binary or any other event.
Are there any actual women upset by this or just dudes on letsrun
Probably worth a different thread but the non binary people need to get rid of "they" as soon as possible imo. Im all for them having their own pronoun, I believe people are non binary. But using "they" was a ridiculous decision, making it sound like someone is more than one person, or having a mental health issues. Further, it makes everything confusing, like commentating on races when someone says "they" you assume they are talking about multiple people or a team. It's crazy cumbersome. Im sure they don't have "meetings" on this stuff, but they should have come up with something that wasn't totally confusing. Its one person, non binary, still singular human being (2 genders, one person). I don't like it, I wonder if any non binary folks feel this way.
The problem is that "nonbinary" does not have any defined membership because it is all based on self-identity. Therefore, it's impossible to have a meeting of nonbinary representatives to vote on the preferred pronoun. Even if they did that, there will be people who do not like Xe, Ze or whatever they choose, and keep using a different pronoun.
I don't know if any other language uses a plural pronoun for gender neutral pronoun. For example, it's "ile" in French (the combination of il and elle). Ils and elles are still gender specific, and therefore make no sense as gender neutral pronoun.
Iel is a neo-pronoun in the French language intended as an alternative to the gender-specific pronouns elle ("she") and il ("he"). It has been adopted by the Le Robert dictionary but is not officially accepted by the Académie...
Would it be factual to call it a women's American record?
What was tweeted was factual and the OP cried about it. Soy
Lol you can't answer the question. You can't call it a women's American record because that would offend your beliefs. But if it's not a women's record, it's not a record at all, since many Americans have run faster. The mental acrobatics your idiotic worldview requires.

You mean posters on this board are virtue signaling to boost their cultural warrior credentials?
People like OP remind me of those who look for "racism" "sexism" "homophobia" etc. any place they can so that they can get outraged.

They care about maintaining a good relationship with Nikki, an athlete they cover a lot. Nikki probably prefers this way of listing the record, as do their fans, so why would citius want to be unnecessarily controversial? This is literally the easiest way to go about this.
nikki, the athlete with the record, requests a certain and harmless way to announce the record, so the mag obliges. How is that a weaponization of language? If anything it only de-escalates any sort of tensions.

Being that we are all track fans, we all know by the time that it is an American Women's record - whether it is stated or not. And that is assuming one doesn't know who Nikki Hiltz is (and almost everyone on LRC knows who she is). You're letting it bother you. There is no need for righteous indignation. Save it for more important things. Congratulations to Nikki Hiltz -nice run!

Often times, tyranny is about what is true but you're *not* allowed to say. It's like the tale, the Emperor's New Clothes.

I have too much great stuff going on in my life to get upset at something as dumb as this.
You are incorrect. How many times is there a thread about a well known runner and most posters have no idea who they are. My wife is a big track fan. If I ask her what the women's 1000 meter world record is, she may say 2:10 knowing that it is longer than 800.

That's part of the operation though, is to get people convinced that this is the proper response. Not necessarily to how some third-rate blog phrases a headline per se, but to the entire movement to legitimize "nonbinary" as a new victim group to whom we owe maximum deference.
