very solid place to live, decent town, great scenery, weather isn't particularly worse than anywhere else in Utah, St. George is roughly an hour away if you need an escape to warmer weather or a bigger town.
This has nothing to do with being soft. It is a jab at all of those who are commenting on the weather in Laramie and likely have never been there. Yxie, because you are so hard I assume you live in Rock Springs or some other lovely Wyo town.
So when it comes to challenging weather, I highly doubt that Laramie is in the bottom 15% in the US, knowing that this is a subjective appraisal, due to some finding heat challenging, some cold, some this or that.
You have obviously never been to Laramie. It will eat you alive.
So many of you are so soft. I guess it is good we have drones for warfare because you guys cannot do it. You are so soft that it is a wonder you can get out of bed in the morning.
How come no one ever talks about Mexico when searching for the next cheap altitude training hub? Tons of high-altitude locations. Nice weather year-round. Unimproved roads are the norm. Could probably live off $10,000 a year easily. Obviously getting kidnapped by a cartel while out training is a concern, but there must be some areas they don't operate.
People talk about it, it's just as accessible, relatable or realistic as the intermountain west. Plenty of places to live, cheap and not really that dangerous.
Mead legends Matt and Micah Davis did a stint in Oaxaca on the cheap back in 1997 while at Oregon:

I lived, ran, and went to school in AZ. This spring, within 90 minutes of finishing my last final, I got the hell out of that mess of a state.
Arizona continues to grow and thrive in your absence. The economy is strong, the Diamondbacks made it to the World Series, and ASU recently announced plans to open up a medical school after being accepted to the prestigious Association of American Universities. We're getting ready to host major sporting events such as the Phoenix Open, Final Four, Spring Training, and the Copa America. Upcoming concerts include The Eagles, Oliva Rodrigo, Bad Bunny, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and Luke Combs. It's a great time to be in Arizona.
Here is what I don’t understand. Wyoming can be a great place to live, as can Arizona. So no need to bash either one. I have no horse in this race myself, but it is strange to see all the odd complaints. Just live where you want I guess.
Yes, I agree with you. That's why my last comment didn't include anything negative about Wyoming. All I did was write about some good things that are happening in Arizona. After I admittedly went too far yesterday, I made a conscious decision to change.
Every state has good aspects. Yellowstone and Grand Teton are high on my list of places in the US I want to visit in the next five years.

You sound like someone who has lived there your entire life.

If you had read Rich's threads, you'd have learned that only CA is acceptable as a place to live and those who live elsewhere simply don't have the means.

No, only for the past decade. I've actually lived in every US region. That's why I find comparisons fascinating. I've experienced what it's like in different places, and I've done a lot of thinking on it. I've decided that Arizona is the best place for me, but I know it's not for everyone. People need to figure out what's best for them.

Forecast for next several days in Laramie (This is January 2024). You tell me if you want to train here. In the summer, especially August, there's almost ALWAYS forest fire smoke. If there's a fire in Washington, Oregon, Cali, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, or Canada...the smoke makes its way here due to how the jet stream and wind patterns move. Afternoons in the summer is almost always windy and very dry. It's a terrible place to train with any consistency.

The U of Wyoming might be different, but when I lived in college towns I never found footing when there was snow a problem because universities got their walks and roads cleaned really quickly.
