Having to both run the standard and make top three is not about wanting a time trial race. It’s about legitimacy.
Agreed.
Top-3 is important for the way we select the team in they USA. Combine that with all top-3 also have the standard and they’re all going, and will be competitive.

and yet our best 1500 guy, who was competitive, would not have gone in 2021
You don’t think a 14:19 athlete ought to be able to blow the doors off of 14:50 athletes, if she wanted to?
In a championship race? Maybe? Probably? Completely depends on how the race shakes out. If it was a time trial evenly paced for a 14:20 or whatever then yeah Monson would smash any american unless 2020 Schweizer comes back. Things can change if/when she's forced to lead the whole race to avoid a 15:50 kick finish like we had in 2022.
The difference between 14:19 and 14:50 is massive and she’s going out kick them over any distance of 400 meters or more.
I am always amazed at how many people here think that speed makes for a good kick. Every high level coach knows that it is strength that makes for a kick. There were hundreds of posts before the USATF championships in 2022 claiming that if Tuohy could stay close, that she could outkick a bunch of better runners.
Just read this article shared on another thread... so is Tuohy thinking of running the 1500m at trials now too or am I misteading this quote?
"Tuohy isn’t sure of her upcoming schedule, but she is gearing towards the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, where she plans to run the 5,000 meters. She may also run the 1,500 meters depending on how her training is going."

Maybe they are referring to her plans to run some 1500m races?... but it sure sounds like the trials. It would take sub 4 to maje the team though. I cpuld see Cranny or Andrews doing the double, but that's it.

Rather than actually double in the 1500m, it’s possible she is just planning to make the 5000m team in a sit-and-kick final, whether or not she has the time standard, instead relying upon a nebulous WA ranking garnered from running a 2mile at Millrose. Capiche? This strategy is already being discussed on the other tuohy/adidas thread.

Exactly right about sub 4’s . And plenty of sub 4 lately. At least Cranny ran 3;58 in July. Andrews ran one 3:59 two years ago and has not been able to duplicate that or run faster. Why bother showing up to the Trials in the 1500.
