Adults/parents using mental and physical punishment against children is a crime just as it is a crime when adults use the same method against each other. Abuse don't make people better, don't make them understand more and is a serious attack against the personal integrity. That said I have no factual knowledge this happened in the family of Gjert Ingebrigtsen.
What should be obvious for all is that internal problems in the family should be solved by themselves but media in Norway is as hungry and speculative as media in UK or US.
Disagreements related to training and couching is another case they should be capable to handle without announcing it to the media unless they have good reasons for doing so. What caused the break in the family (with 7 children) between Jakob/Henrik/and maybe Filip towards Gjert is up to them to speak about if they want because most people simply don't know so much.
Some time ago I sent a mail with a question to 'Sandnes idrettslag' to buy a training program for runners. Gjert replied and wrote it was not for sale.
Reading about their weekly 'threshold' program on the Internet I found out that their pure quality distance a couple years ago Tuesdays/8x1000m PM, Thursdays/25x400m PM and Saturdays/hard hills 10+10x200m PM were 22, km. Now they hold to have added light 5x2000m on Tuesdays AM and 6x1600m on Thursday AM instead of recovery runs these days. I question if this is smart at all or is it put up to confuse competitors? Their Tuesday threshold intervals is now 8-12x1000m and their Thursdays threshold is lowered to 20x400m.
Without counting their claimed recovery jogs AM Mo-Sa morning of too long 10km/day or 60km/week their total kms a couple of years ago were some 90,75km/week including guessed 3 km warming up and 2 km down jog with PM distance runs 10km on Mo, We, Fri with one session of 20km on Sundays in the basic period which of course is not the same all the same to spring. Pure quality runs: some 22 km.
Team Ingebrigtsen trains polarized and not mainly threshold:
Their pure quality runs Tu, Th and Sa in the case here represents the method from polarized training of 20% without counting their earlier claimed 10km/AM recovery jogs six days a week. But this means they had to have many tougher weeks.
They have never told what kind of training they do the other weeks in a meso period autumn into spring moths. Nothing about hard non-threshold intervals with long rest as Dave Moorcroft did who used 8x300m/rest 3min, 4x600m/rest 5 min, 4-6x1000m/rest 6½mins. Not sure of Moorcroft's 150s and 200s, but with the same method it should mean 15x150m/guessing rest of 1½min or 10x200m/rest 2 mins. This for non-threshold intervals.
Team Ingebrigtsen has said nothing about plyometric training with body weights, lighter weights, pure strength training, nothing on run-skipping in hills and on flat terrain, nothing about using weight vest, nothing about long hill intervals, nothing about block training in tougher weeks, nothing about their hard intervals as Moorcroft and nothing about how they structure the different weeks related to polarized training. So just copying the official information from Team Ingebrigtsen is not smart at all. Remember rest for threshold 1000m is 200m jog, and rest for 400m threshold is easy jogging 100m. The idea is not to go all out on threshold days.
