Let's not pretend it wasn't one of the most entertaining, bad ass, memorable wins we've ever been able to see. She felt like crap and almost dropped out, she sacrificed herself to allow Shalane to have someone to run with after a pit stop, she was almost out of it until she wasn't, the weather added an exciting obstacle that allowed us to see one of the grittiest performances ever which is a nice break every once in a while from the inevitable top contender/time trialing we so often inevitability see.
It was an interesting, entertaining race in conditions that are rarely seen in a major marathon . I appreciate Desi and I like listening to her and Kara’s podcast but she would not have won under normal conditions .

For all of Linden's carreer you have come on every Linden threads to state that she is trash. What exactly did she ever do to you?
Not a trash athlete to me. A very accomplished athlete. A lousy human being and this is becoming more and more clear as her skills become less impressive.
Des has turned more toxic on twitter. Not sure if NBC/peacock still hires her to do commentary but I'm going to light up nbcsports/peacock/etc.. on twitter referencing every rude remark she makes on twitter. I want to get her removed. She seems like a bitter, sarcastic woman.
Des is wonderful; I think she's just introverted and sarcastic, not mean, but just an edge to her. There were many girls in school like her--they weren't the Queen Bee girls or anything, just on the edges or the next level below.
Nice to see that Reid is living up to the Catholic values taught at University of Portland. Don't inspire your brothers and sisters! Snark on them in the most bitter way possible. It's what Jesus taught, right? You got a pithy retort to the Beatitudes, Reid?
My point is that the posters claiming that "Americans don't get it" fail to understand that not everyone living in a country has the same personality or set of values.

Have you ever met anyone from Manhattan, KS? This is par for the course.

Surprised to see Des snark here; usually it's on Blogsnark or GOMI.
People here are so mad over a tweet. You trash talk these running “studs” (way faster times than you) over a tweet. What makes you any different? Nobody knows who you are in the running world, why act like you think it’s a big deal you don’t know who they are/ what they say means anything.
Cry over nothing or get over your ego. This website is full of insecure losers who gossip over something so small. What, did they bang your mom so you have a reason to dislike them?
Wah wah wah, “but I’m an adult, I’m mature”.
Pot, meet kettle.
Why are you so up in arms about other people expressing jealousy, envy, and ego? Could it be that your own ego and insecurity can't stand the thought of other people daring to express anything other than extreme deference?
And yes, I realize the hypocrisy of me bringing that up myself. But, the difference is that I did not have to resort to a bunch of crap like your mom getting banged, or you being slower than supposed running "studs," to try to induce shame in the reader. What did you expect everyone to do? Go prostrate themselves at your feet and scream "Omgeee, you are so right, you are such a superior person to me and I am forever in your debt for saving me from my ego and insecurity!?!"
They are mad because Americans are lousy marathon runners. The best females in the world would be ranked amongst the top American males which is pathetic.
I’ve won 8 marathons in my life time and no where near the speed of Kipchoge and have inspired thousands of runners that I knew during that time. This man that made this quote has been at a higher level then me but still hasn’t figured out sportsmanship and that it’s rather confusing and concerning. Hell I’d love to be as fast as Kipchoge and some of these other runners but I’ll never put them down for things they say….. Kipchoge is more of a man that almost 100% of the human population. He truly is an athlete but above all he is a stand out human being and respected amongst athletes and non athletes
For me ,these two trolls are less concerning. Perhaps they were just looking for cheap publicity which they have successfully gotten. For me I was more concerned by the half-hearted tribute to Kipchoge by Jonathan Gault on letsrun.com which started of pointing at his staggering achievements then towards the end watered it all down with the "age narrative" and perpetuating that narrative I.e that surely the GOAT must be on decline now because he is old . We saw through that half hearted tribute.I think most Kipchoge fans did anyway.
themildrunmaster wrote: Kipchoge has a personality that likens himself to some wise sage. I think this has partly to do with his unique personality and also the way he expresses himself in a second language--yes, expressing yourself in an unfamiliar way will change the intended expression. All that said, Nike has picked up on this and cranked this portrayal of him to an EXTREME. The way Nike portrays Kipchoge is as if he's some Gandalf/Yoda/Gandhi/Mandela/Dalai Lama figure who also happens to be the GOAT of running
Don’t forget Dumbledore, Warren Buffet, and the Oracle from the Matrix
