there are threads about jesuit la and they were more average than newbury park 2023.
Some teams are "more average" than others? How Orwellian.
Jesuit wasn’t average last year. They were very good. They just had an off race at NXN. Their top guy didn’t finish and no one else raced to their potential. Bad races happen
Mid unless proven otherwise. That is how it should be.
Teams that are actually good in the west are tired of hearing about all these overhyped teams and how they had a ‘bad day’ coming nationals.
They were super overrated until proven otherwise.
Jesuit LA won Niketown a year ago. I did find it odd when Milesplit ranked them over Newbury Park though
It was more than odd. It was like telling people "Don't refer to our rankings if you want to know who the best teams really are. There are other sites for that."
Okokok. I don't want to offend any jesuit la fans on here. If they really did have wins against all these teams, than they are not mid. They are lucky the teams they beat pulled through for them to score well nationally.
But you can't deny they fell apart at the end. In college xc or any sport really it's all about the NCAA race. If you don't score well at the end, and are ranked higher than the best team in history, people are going to be a little annoyed with you.
Milesplit did that ranking to generate clicks/buzz/excitement for an otherwise very boring team battle. Everyone knew Newbury was going to win, but they didn’t open their season until Clovis, which was after that ranking was released. I don’t think anyone took milesplit seriously when they did that. But I guess it worked since people are still discussing it a year later.
Jesuit La is just a victim of hype and milesplit rankings. We see victims of hype in all forms of entertainment. Video Games, Sport teams, TV shows, etc.
What do we need to see from NP this weekend to believe that they will qualify for NXN?
I think that 5 of the tile 7 need to improve by 30 seconds+ Had the Sloans not transferred and had Adrian Cantu gone to NP, they would be in a much better position now

Entries list is up. NP Lineup for the championship race: Doshi (12) Shetty (12) Guevara (12) Fletcher - transfer (12) Herrera - transfer (11) Dickran (10) Schohn (12) Looks like both transfers are lined up in the championship race. We’ll see how this will make an impact. Also, looks like this team is as senior-heavy as last year

Doshi Shetty Guevara all top 25 (sub 15:30), transfers both score and finish below 16 minutes (top 40-50). Or mix and match that combination; just 5 runners sub 16 and 2-3 of those sub 15:30 or very close to it. Doshi did it last year, and Shetty/Guevara seem to be matching his fitness right now, but Doshi seems underperforming this year so far. And then the transfers are unknowns at this point. So pretty tough based on current results this year, but anything can happen at Clovis.
That's the only way you upset the current hierarchy and maybe snatch an at large berth or the #2 spot. I don't think California gets a 2nd at large this year.
I'm calling that they get 5th-6th this year in the race with a 15:55 average time for their scorers.
Rocky Mountain was not robbed.... I am so tired of hearing this annoying narrative. Rocky Mountains performance at NXR last year was disappointing, that is why they didn't get a bid. Granada had their best performance of the year at State. The committee had to choose between Rocky Mountain and Granada, and they chose Granada because of their state performance. Stop making excuses every year someone really good doesn't go to nxn that is just how it is. At-larges are competitive. Just run better next time.

To end this argument once and for all. Granada's performance at the state meet was more impressive than Great Oak 2021. A program that later went on to place 6th at nationals that year. That is why they were chosen over Rocky Mountain.

Didn’t the Sloan brothers move? I thought I saw that in another thread. They were eligible for Varsity for Ventura right away.
I also remember seeing in another thread that Cantu lives very far from Newbury Park. It makes sense that Adrian doesn’t go there since Sean is no longer coaching it
Based on the Clovis invite, it doesn’t seem like those guys would have made much of a difference this year. Sloan brothers finished behind Schohn (5th runner without Doshi in the race, 6th with), And younger Cantu beat Schohn by .1.
