You idiot. Pretty sure you don’t know what it means to choke. Peak fitness is not so easy to sustain for months. This is different from choking.
So he wasn't at peak fitness when he show-boated in the semis? He had most of us fooled - you included, I expect.
You are a fool. You haven’t been an elite athlete. Some of us here have. We know that one is not maintaining peak fitness for months on end. I said that Jakob could not run 7:54 very many days of the year. You are so arrogant yet so lacking in intelligence.

Pretty harsh words. I'm actually interested in your answer to the question -- it seems like you're saying that Jakob wasn't in peak shape during the semis (or worlds in general...?) but nonetheless showboated? Seems like a pretty cocky thing to do for an elite athlete.
Also, for an elite athlete who's been competing at the highest level since he was a kid, why on earth would Jakob not peak for the biggest competition of the year?

Trying to peak and being at one’s peak are not synonymous. As far as the showboating, that is a personality issue and is not relevant to the issue of peaking. If you want to say Jakob is annoying I won’t contradict you. So there is pressure at championships especially when you have a target on your back as the favorite. This can be deleterious to one’s performance and therefore preclude peak performance. Jakob did not run poorly as his margin for error in nonrabbitted races is not great.
Just saw the weather for the race. 85 degrees and 44% humidity. No way is Jakob winning this. Nordas is more likely. As are the tiny Ethiopians. Skeletal runners for the win!!

Well I hope you’re right that Jakob doesn’t win but Nordas is not going to win and last year was hot enough that Jakob was drinking water during the 5000m and he still won. So who knows?
Team Gjert/Nordas, or specifically Nordås himself is the one that has commented on this publicly in the media before this. The brothers havent said a word.
Did they, or did they not, lobby against their own father to deny him coaching credentials..? That’s public knowledge at this point.
It's sour grapes going back long. The National Federation has been having beef with Gjert since before the brothers fell out with him, it's all in his book (unfortunately not yet translated to English) how they early on took issue with a (at the time) T&A noob coming out strong telling it publicly that their recommended methods were not good enough and how he refused to basically hand them over to someone certified.
He was right of course, in the late 00s and early 10s official Norwegian T&A was behind other sports on updating themselves and way behind Nordic Skiing in attracting talents.
Bob Kennedy (the runner) kinda did something similar a generation and a half earlier, did not train for the 5000 and 10000 along recommended methods, but produced results that couldn't be ignored because it repeatedly placed him on the US teams.

So when he waved to the crowd in his semi you didn't pick he wasn't at "peak fitness". He's not at "peak fitness" it appears when he doesn't either set a world record or when he loses. You aren't in a position to make an observation about anyone else's intelligence. That would require intelligence.

You have nothing to support the fact that he wasn't at his peak or at least near it other than the fact he lost the final. It reads as little more than another excuse.

It appears Jakob has made a habit of not being at his "peak" for the last 3 world championships over this distance. A little careless for a runner of his calibre.
Just to reiterate: there is no Norwegian doctor or diagnosis in the picture. The only indication that there was is the OP, who is not Norwegian and heard some fourth-hand rumor. Henrik Ingebrigtsen confirmed after his own 5000m that Jakob has not consulted a doctor, adding that there is no point as a doctor "wouldn't be able to do anything" (he also made a sarcastic refernce to a notorious quack doctor from a few decade ago).
Hence, the only thing we have about a fever is a brief, vague and non-committal comment from Jakob himself, said in passing. FWIW, his pre-final interview by NRK, an hour or so before start, was void of any suggestion about dry throats, fevers or ailments. Without independent verification, it's just you believe him or you don't.
“there is no Norwegian doctor or diagnosis in the picture“ -this is not quite correct: Jakob consulted the Norwegian head physician Ove Talsnes between 1500m final and 5000m relay, and even got a diagnosis ( “a cold, fever, but not an infection”).
But the real thing is this: IMO a lot of the reasons why Jakob is both disliked and liked is his honesty. -So I really don’t get that you and others doubt Jakob’s explanation here (feeling bad, soured throat, and so on). Furthermore: “ Without independent verification, it's just you believe him or you don't.” -How on earth can’t you see that Jakob underperformed grossly (despite running a good tactically race) -maybe as much as 2 -3 seconds, and despite his stellar performance in the semifinals- reality (the race) and Jakob’s explanation is very much coherent here -where are your eyes and logic..?

For some reason I have lost the possibility to edit my posts (some minutes after posting). So here comes my editing: Not soured throat, but sore..
