Guys, Reynold Kipkorir Cheruyiot (18 years old) ran 3.30.60 in Silesia which is a better time than the one Jakob had when he was 18 (he made a 3.31.70). The kenyan is the real threat and the one who will definitely defeat the Norwegian in the next 1-2 years.
Tremendous run and tremendous consistency at the top level this year for Jakob. He's just 1.14 off the record now, yet he put himself 2.5 seconds in the hole from it in the first 1200m, 2 seconds in the first 800m, so he'll have to go to the well a bit more by going out closer to 54.8 (wr pace). I'd think that 55s to 1200m (2:45) would be optimal for him, leaving him some work to do to get under (deficit of 0.6) but a close well within his wheelhouse (40.9). Expecting to drop a 53 last lap is too much, given that he doesn't train much at all under 1500m pace.

It's very common among east africans to run very fast when 16-20 and then have an ordinary carreer. Either because they were actually older than that or some other reasons (maybe they have more trouble handling the fame and money that goes with early success)
Myers is ending his season and heading home to prepare for 2024.

I think you are wrong -Jakob was 18 years and 290 days old when he ran 3.30.16. Reynold Kipkorir Cheruiyot was 18 years 351 days old when he ran 3.30.30…

I don't understand. Although he's an amazing talent, no one really expects much from a 17 year old at a world championship. In my opinion he's missing out on extremely valuable championship experience.
Jakob went to worlds in 2017 (at 16y10m) for the 3000mSC with one purpose only: getting experience. He ran 8:34 and didn't qualify for the final, which was the expected outcome.
respect for the decision. Was racing in December and oh by the way he is in the middle of his 11th grade year. He is still just a kid and if he is truly the athlete he has demonstrated he has plenty of time to race for World and Olympic medals. He is already a much better racer than any athlete at the NCAA level.
I know if you're an American your head is going to explode.

Technically possible, highly unlikely. The ages of African athletes (and, by proxy, the poached Bahraini/Qatari athletes) are dubious at best. There's a chance that this Cheruyoit is already older than Jakob.
Look at the Tampere U20 meet from 2018. Jakob was sandwiched between George Manangoi and Justus Soget in the 1500. Five years later, Jakob is Olympic/World champ, WR holder indoors and out... Manangoi's biggest accomplishment probably remains that "U20" gold and Soget has done nothing noteworthy since.
The "U20" 1500 record holder himself, Ronald Kwemoi, ran 3:28 at "18" -- never improved. His only major medals to note (African Champs and Commonwealth Champs) were earned in his "teenage" years.
Take every African performance with a grain of salt. A lot of these guys are peaking as "teenagers" because they're actually in their 20s.
Pretty unreal, 3:26 is almost a given now

Same race in Monaco he would have gone 3.26

Or they may be training at a very high (perhaps even irresponsible) level from age 16 or 17. If you've watched Reynold Cheruiyot run or seen him in person, while he is very physically mature and powerful as a runner he is pretty youthful and green when it comes to racing. The idea that he would've wasted his age 20-21 seasons training instead of earning money to preserve his junior status seems absurd. He's improved a huge amount this year from being a 3:34 runner in Europe last year to 3:30/13:02 on the roads etc. Something you'd expect from late teenager. Whether he's 18 or maybe 19-20 I don't know, but I'm scoffing at any suggestion he's 23 based on George Manangoi as evidence.
From that same Tampere meet in the 5000, there're 6 Africans in the top 7 with Jakob (bronze). Ironically, only the race winner (Zakayo) hasn't gotten way better in the last few years with Oscar Chelimo, Stanley Mburu, Kiplimo, Haile Bekele and Barega all winning major medals or running 12:45 in Haile Bekele's case. So they've all had massive improvements from Juniors.
Yes, with management under JT he will be an all time great 3:27 - 3:28 my guess
With all these personal bests in 1500 m Diamond League; how much come from the new shoes? Or do all these have so much talent than twenty years ago, or have they suddenly found new training methods to run so fast? I reckon new shoes are about two seconds faster.
I remember way back in the 1993 world championships a "15 year old" kenyan girl won bronze in the 10'000 meters.Sally barsosio. She was probably considerably older than that.
