In the state of illinois right now who knows who should be ranked what. Both Milesplit and Newman had to throw some darts this year across all 3 classes. Going to be a great year starting this weekend.
Newman is a hardcore York and WSC guy so if he has them at 19th you can be sure that ranking may be a little hopeful. Seriously, they lost 5 of their top 7 from a team that got 11th in sectionals and now apparently has reduced numbers. Did they recruit from Newbury Park?
The thing is, for returners, York had a better track season in 2023 than they did in 2022. In fact, they had a guy who wasn’t in their top 7 last year run a sub-10 in the 3200. And he is a junior

yes who isn’t grateful for the york program. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be the strong distance running state that we are. They made everyone better year after year. Sounds like you never made varsity at york or they had 73 runners in front of you at a dual meet. no need to hate on them. One off year in a historical year in the state doesn’t sound the alarm across the state.
I didn't run for York, simply know someone who did run for York and just repeated the question he was asking. Also never trashed the other teams in the state. Do you have dyslexia?

Would you have a list of their returnees times? 10:00 or high 9:00 is a good time but where does that place him on the depth chart? If it's as 6th or 7th man that's encouraging, but if it's 2nd or 3rd man they have some work to do.

2023 track times for York nonseniors
Saltiel - 11 - 9:57 Davies - 12 - 10:14 Bradford - 11 - 10:20 / 15:50 3-mile / 4:39 1600 Sebastian - 11 - 10:26 Zangan - 11 - 10:33 / 15:36 3-mile / 4:31 1600 Kehoe - 11 - 4:36 Tobin - 11 - 4:42 Zangan and Sebastian were the only two in York’s top 7 last year for XC
There will be probably people coming out of nowhere too
2022 track times for York non-seniors
O'Shaughnessy - 4:34 1600
Bryk - 4:46 1600 / 10:18 3200
Lestina - 10:27 3200
Hill - 4:35 1600 indoor
Zangan - 4:46 1600
So 2023 nonsenior track times were better than the 2022 non senior track times

Thank you.
I'd say the 1600 times are more encouraging than the 3200 times. Illinois courses being generally flat if you can run a decent 1600 you can have success. Depends on what they did over the summer.
York being 19th is crazy. People aren't going see them coming at all. I think this year they are extremely underrated due to last years results.
The reason why people ranked York so low is because they lost 5 of their varsity guys and they did not make state last year. It’s also hard to know what all of the teams do in summer practices, which is why sometimes preseason rankings are different from what ends up happening during the season.
