Watching Emily annihilate the field at the trials and then walking over to interview and smiling in the 110 degree heat was so bad*ss.
And I think the harder the conditions, the better Aliphine is compared to the other US women. Her PR is only 2:24, but did anyone pick her to win the trials when her pr was 2:27? I’d love to see her race the Olympics in good fitness.
Seriously though, you don’t know how hot the Olympics are going to be, but based off the last 2 TdF, France has been hot af in July. You’d rather send a team that’s good in the heat and it be a little cooler than the trials, than a team that was picked in perfect temps on a perfect course(sidebar - has Keira done well in not super flat perfectly paced marathons? She’s never top American at the majors despite her records, which have all been manicured as if they are a time trial, so I have a hard time believing she’ll make the team if the conditions aren’t ideal)
