How is it disrespectful? I said outright that the 1500/5000 was near impossible and that she was likely giving away a near certain title in the 5000m by trying it. She beat Valby doubling at regionals, and I think it is perfectly fair that a fully rested Tuohy could have handled a 15:30 and a 1:10 close. The 1500m is a different sort of race. But the 5000m is her wheelhouse. Does not change the fact that it did not happen.
If you don’t see how it’s disrespectful to the actual NCAA champion to claim another runner would have won but….then I can’t help you. I’m not saying Valby is better than Tuohy in general, or that Tuohy’s career is over, but she had nothing in the 1500 tonight. Did you expect that race from her? No you did not. Tuohy tonight was way off her usual for whatever reason and just assuming she would have won the 5000 is a lame opinion, one that I’m sure Tuohy herself does not share. Respect the competition and do better next time.
Please refresh my memory…exactly when has Valby beaten Tuohy in head-to-head competition? Oh never? What makes you think this would have been different? Tuohy‘s PB is 27 seconds faster than the 15:30 run by Valby. That’s an eternity in 12.5 laps. Even if conditions tonight wouldn’t have been conducive to a sub 15 effort, do you honestly believe a fresh Tuohy would not have been able to go under 15:30? She ran a 4:33 mile at 16 in 95 degree heat. To lose to Valby in a National final in such a slow race is beyond rational. I know it’s fashionable to hate Katelyn in this forum but this is stretching credulity even for the fashionable Tuohy haters.
So her fading in the last lap of a 1500 means she would not have been able to win a 15:30 5000m with a pedestrian close? Going to have to go with no on that one.
Hello?! It’s the fans this athlete has drawn, and turned this board into their little gloat troupe going back to last fall.
This I agree with - Semi haze went way over the top. No doubt the response will be that I did too and to that I will say please show me a post by me that is over the top on Tuohy. BTW Semi haze blocked me from the IG account because I had the audacity to point out he (she?) might be a problem.
No offense dude but your level of fanaticism (while not as crazed as semi or Astro) is kind of weird. It just seems sort of like an obsession.
This thread is pretty toxic. I don't know what it is about Tuohy that gets everybody so riled up. It doesn't seem like she's ever acted in any way that would warrant the ire. My personal opinion on what happened today is that she's probably been a little bit burnt since indoor where she was clearly in monstrous shape. That, combined with a REALLY strong 1500 field evened the odds. The 1500/5k double in hindsight seems like a really bad choice if she was feeling fatigued going in. If fatigue was the problem, scratching the 5k was the right coaching decision. The one thing I will say to the Tuohy haters though: She absolutely would have won that 5k if she hadn't tried to do the double. That much I pretty darn certain of.
There are very few posts on this thread that are saying anything bad about Tuohy. She’s only been gracious in victory or defeat. The thread is about not giving the proper due to the actual NCAA champion, one who ran in the front gun to tape, Parker Valby. Posting the Tuohy WOULD have won the race IF just minutes after Valby won is lame. If you watched how Tuohy has looked this weekend in her races, and still claim she would have won, is not only disrespectful, it’s just plain unjustified.

We only have one data point from her form tonight: the 1500m. She did not look good.
If Tuohy was in the 5000m, perhaps it would have played out differently. We don't know. She didn't run it.
It's a 5000m. A 5000m is not a 400m or a 1500m. The race is run in a completely different way. The idea people here are seriously connecting a disappointing 1500 to not being able to run at a pace she can do in her sleep in the 5000m is silly.

She's a great person. Humble, but confident. Very consistent. Seems to love the grind.
The issue is that her most fervent supporters are absolutely insufferable. To the point many of us can't help but root against Tuohy just so her insane fans will stfu.
Astro has been one of the worst offenders for a very long time now. Like Rojo, I suspect a lot of posters downvote what he writes before even reading it and despite whether they agree with his thoughts.
Yeah I can agree with that. I know of a few celebs that are perfectly good people who have fans that make me hate hearing about that celebrity, so I get it. I do sometimes think about whether these high school and college athletes ever see what is said about them on these forums. I can't imagine that would be good for their self esteem. However, I suppose that comes with the territory of being a top athlete.

Tuohy was clearly not in 15:03 shape tonight!
Valby also would have likely run faster in a more competitive race. Regardless, we don't know!
if a fresh Tuohy HAD ran the 5000 tonight I suspect it would have been similar to the east regionals.
my best guess is after a few laps Tuohy would have made a surge and Valby covers it. Maybe Tuohy's teammate Tyynismaa goes with them.
after a few more laps Tuohy surges again and Valby again covers it. Tyynismaa, and whomever else went with them (possibly Venters and Kemboi) drop and it's just Tuohy and Valby for the last 1000m.
and this is where it gets foggy. Does Tuohy break Valby, or was Valby just baiting her like Krissy Gear did to Tuohy at the Penn Relays and zoom past in the final sprint?
She did not look good last year in the 5000m final and ran 15:19. It is relative. Heck she was struggling at Soundrunning and ran 15:03. She doubled at regionals and still ran a 15:31 with a 1:07 final lap. I think I can feel pretty darn confident.

And here is the ‘mid distance’ running expert with the ‘Olympian coach’ that was advising Tuohy should go to altitude and pour on some special training these past two weeks after the West Prelims, in prep for these Champs!
We all knew then this guy didn’t have a clue, but hey, based upon her performance, maybe Tuohy took his advice! 😂
Sorry. You guys lost the argument. Rather badly. The idea that unless she is outright ill she would not have outkicked Valby if she was fresh just like every single time before including regionals is insane.
