Give prime Komen or El Guerrouj super shoes for training and racing along with pacing lights, and they would have run faster than Jakob did.
This bugs me. What would Jakob have to do for you to consecrate him like you have Komen? He’s running incredible times and dominating his competition. Why are the legends of the late 90s untouchable for runners of the modern era?
I’m not even arguing that those two couldn’t run 7:54 with new spikes and wave light. I’m just saying the legendary status you’ve long assigned them might make it hard for you to recognize when a modern athlete is reaching their status right in front of us.
