She mentioned something about getting coerced into some pyramid type scheme but I think it was for vitamins. The cryo chambers are mentioned but not to where it stands out For me it’s quite possible she worked with Nike for 12 years, but she definitely didn’t work with Alberto for that long & in those early years w/ Alberto she was a minor character
I will defend Alberto as a person. One issue that many of you could never begin to grasp is that the very reason Alberto was able to push himself to the brink of death was because he was a tortured soul from the very beginning, and if you cannot relate it might because you aren’t, because if you are, you might know that when he was pushing himself into realms of discomfort which the timid or complacent will never place their toes in, it was because it was a temporary reprieve from the anguish which was his incessant companion. Alberto does not believe he did anything outside of his moral code, the code is you use every weapon at your disposal to win. As far as the allegations of unsavory conduct in relation to a woman go, this is tame stuff folks, awkward groping while massaging an athlete, it is the stuff of a man who likely needed therapy from the age of 5 and then opted to wage war on the world in the only way he knew, and was a bull in a China shop when dealing with women. I would never judge the man unless I had been in his shoes and for those who do, watch your step…
So why was he so angry? Honestly, if he wasn't so religious, I'd assume a priest 'massaged' him as a little boy. But i'm ruling that out. Any ideas?
I loved Coach Prime’s speech to his team Colorado University. Stay in school! Respect your education! Do the work in the gym, on the course, and in the classroom. She’s having fun. She’s running fast with girls she loves, a coach she trusts, and a sponsor she likes. It could end at any time. Go Katelyn!
The thing I don't really understand is that she didn't complain/tell after the first incident. Kept getting massages. Then it happened. Still no police reports, allegations, etc. Only now - once the gravy train of running has slowed - are the allegations coming out.
Not saying it happened or didn't happen. It's just odd to me.
Because sexual assault takes a severe psychological toll and you don't have clear perspective. Especially when the perpetrator is in a position of power over you, your mind will jump through hoops to rationalize it and come up with some reason why it wasn't sexual assault.
I was sexually assaulted and it took me almost eight years to finally admit to myself what it was. Kara said as well that she rationalized it by telling herself that he massaged Galen and Adam frequently and that she was definitely overthinking it, only to realize later on how sick he actually is.

I'd be tempted to go borrow 14 Minutes and try to glean more background and context. What was his childhood like? Did he have an abusive mother?
Some stuff I didn’t know & found interesting-She is upfront about how much she earned with Nike, contracts & appearance fees. Before her pregnancy, her baseline w/ Nike was $320k/year. The year she got pregnant she basically didn’t get paid by nike bc she didn’t race although she did do pr, meet & greets & photoshoots for them. She had to go the legal route to get reimbursed her salary for the year she was pregnant & salazar didn’t support her on this & called her money hungry. She paints Salazar to be, among other things, an alcoholic. She says it was an open secret in the industry that he drank a lot & she believes he scheduled their practices late morning bc he was always hung over. a lot of this book is about salazar, most of it has been shared publicly. the Nike Oregon project, among other things, is portrayed as a team with no boundaries. The athletes had blind faith in Alberto & she believes mo farah & Galen could’ve gone as far as take epo if Alberto told them it was ok. Even for herself, she thinks it’s possible Alberto rubbed testosterone cream on her during one of his massages. They were quick to ingest whatever unmarked pills Salazar gave them & she fears even she herself took a banned substance at some point. she has nothing bad to say about jerry Schumacher, mark wetmore & shalane Flanagan. Joining Jerry’s group was the first time she experienced a professional team. Also she originally wanted to join the mammoth track club after leaving nop but they rejected her.

For those who keep bringing this up, I recommend learning more about abuse and specifically coercive control.
This is probably referring to the email she sent Salazar at the end. Some may be familiar with preparing for a fight and being overwhelmingly relieved that the fight does not come. That relief may be expressed as being grateful or even affection to the one who threatened the fight. Remember that he was her coach and Nike was her employer. He yielded great influence at Nike. So much so that she may have feared a PR campaign directed at destroying her and her family with all the force of a multi billion dollar corporation. Not to mention she felt she had been physically and emotionally abused and wanted out. She tried to do it gracefully, but later could not live with the guilt of silence.
