Hoping Downers Grove North, Illinois gets one. They have a nice, deep and consistent team that beat Hinsdale Central this year. Just a group of 9:35 guys who are always in the mix. They've also done well at Nationals getting 12th and 4th in 2016 and 2017.
The “they” you refer is a group of entirely different group runners who graduated from high school by 2021. Those earlier results have no direct bearing on the current team. Just saying…
You don't know DGN. They just reload. This 2022 team that just qualified will return the regional 1-2-6-7 with a 39 second 1-7 split next year. They also were 3rd in the 2021 region last year, which means the only time they didn't make NXN in the last 5 years when nationals were held was 2018.

Like 4th at Nationals in 2017 and didn’t get an invite in 2018? I now see clearly what you mean by “reload”. Thanks.

In 2018 the region was weak on the boys side too. Hersey won it but finished so much lower in 2017. Wheaton Warrenville also made it but they finished 5th in 2018. York got 3rd in 2018 after losing 6 seniors. That’s how weak the region was. And York didn’t finish that high in the region in 2017
Did anyone have Campolindo girls making it? That seems like an odd choice, guess they did so well at states that they had to take them as an at large? I've never heard of them before, have they ever been to NXN? Beating JSerra helped a lot I bet, especially with FM not fielding a full team at NXR NY.
Campolindo didn’t beat any autoqualifiers. I wonder how it would have turned out if there was NXR CA where all top CA teams faced each other. There was one last year but it was useless since there was no NXN
Anyone in California knows of Campolindo, they've now won 7 state titles and they've been a top 10 team in the state many times so it's not a big surprise they finally made it. They're not a team known for going to any big meets but they tend to have a big finish to the season. They were only a few points away from beating Los Altos in the merge and they were ahead of a highly regarded J Serra team so that was enough to pull them in as an at large.

Last year they got 3rd at state. This year they got 3rd again. And they lost their 1-2-3 from last year. How is this not reloading?

They also took 3rd at NXR last year. So...
2016, 2017, 2021, 2022 all top 3 finishes.
2020 no regional
2018, 2019 DNQ
So 4 out of the last 6 NXR's top 3 finishes and 3 times NXN qualifying and next year looks good too. When you consider you're going to lose seniors and juniors over a 2 year period I'd say yes, that's reloading about as much as most high schools could hope for...And that's without transfers and out of district recruiting.
The thing is, DGN has not had a guy run a 180+ speed rating at all this season. Rocky Mountain had 3
It's xc...how are their 4th and 5th...well over 16:00? You also know that the difference between a speed rating of 180 and 178 is like 6 seconds? There's a definite range of error with speed ratings...they're not 100 percent accurate.
I think that if Oakdale got 4th in the CIF merge, they would not have gotten an at-large since they haven’t beaten Great Oak, Newbury Park, San Clemente or Granada head to head before state.
Rocky Mountain would have gotten the bid. They deserved to be at NXN anyways.
Granada, Great Oak, and San Clemente all beat each other at least once during the season
