It looks like a lot of teams held guys out. Newms was hyping this meet and they bamboozled him.
A 25 second 1-5 split behind a guy who took 7th in state and has already run 14:22 pretty much with no one pushing him is a pretty good indicator. Now I know a guy like Viger usually steps up in competitive races and he splits further up the finish than the 2-5 but it looked like he was pushed a little. Even so PS split 13 seconds from their 2-5. What is the course record anyhow?
You can't count Krieg's result because he ran 2.5. And isn't Hayes one of their scorers? He was a well beaten 4th in the soph race and his time only places him 60th in the varsity race.
With regard to rankings, nothing is official and they mean nothing it's just fun. But my opinion is you can't give teams a higher ranking on anything but head to head competition. The reason being if you have a guy underperform or injured and count him as relevant to rankings when he didn't even run it simply shouldn't count. So maybe Palatine is better than they show but a 6th place, a 15th place and an 8th place against good fields doesn't warrant the state ranking they were given (not by me, anyhow). Show me the money.
Well they took second at Culver today which is a pretty prestigious invite. They went 15:55, 16:07, 16:12, 16:35 for 5k with their first 4 guys placing 2,5,7,16. Unfortunately their 5th man doomed them placing 43rd.

Forgot to mention they took second to Mason, OH which is ranked 5th in NXN Midwest.
Hayes could be one of their scorers. one of their varsity regulars cassassio dnf’ed
Also good to see Andy Hansen who was on varsity last year start to get back to where he was last year. I think that palatine is really deep this year. Way more so than last year.
Some people from state last year having good seasons, a good freshman making a name for himself, a sophomore stepping up from JV, and some seniors who didn’t run at state last year working hard to get their spots their final year.
Ok Should we just say “give the state title to Plainfield South now”?
or can you imagine any team beating them?
they pretty much have a solid 1-5 at this point. Doesn’t even surprise me that they’re nationally ranked
Couple years ago Sandburg had the “best team” and lost. Got out slow and couldn’t get to the front. They returned the whole team practically so it was kind of okay but anything can happen on the day.
