Looks impressive everyone but you
Wow! This must be a VERY personal topic to you. what is your connection to the team? Please tell me you’re not just a fan or this kind of reaction is WAY over the top. NP359 spent the first part of his post saying how good they are. There is no argument about their greatness. However, there is some pretty strong evidence they are not CURRENTLY running their best right now. Doesn’t diminish their accomplishments. They may come back at the end of the season, run even better and break all the world records. Take a deep breath. Nobody is saying your kid is bad, just that they might possibly be in a bit of a slump or struggling a bit. It’s OK.
Rough weekend for the NP crew for those without the last name of Sahlman or Young. I think there is more than a little evidence the majority of their team peaked a bit too early.

I guess this goes to show how athletes make the coach. That is a large portion of the team crapping the bed at the time when it is supposed to count the most.
The Youngs and Sahlmans can make any coach look good (just give them REALLY hard workouts) and having lesser runners train with them will certainly make those runners faster, until they kill themselves trying to train at that level. The outcome is usually burnt toast by the end of the year. Cantu, Doshi, Martinez, Olsen and Sax looked great early in the year, but appear to now fall into the burnt toast group. Will Appleford and the other girls follow suit in the next couple of weekends?
What if they actually run big pr's at the end of the season when they are tapered and peaking? You shouldn't compare peaked February times with April for this team, because they were set to pr in February, to step back a bit, get back into heavy training and peak in May-June after another taper.

Which people didn't make the cut? If they got through to finals it really doesn't matter what place they got at prelims.

It's going to be hard to PR at the end of the season when their season is now over because they ran too slow to qualify for more races. 9:45 (9:23 in Feb), 9:34 (9:09 in Feb and 9:02 in April), 11:08 (10:29 in Feb) aren't even close to qualifying and waaayyy off their PR's.

But is does matter if they didn't make the cut, no? Sax, Cantu and Doshi all got cut and should have easily moved on based on what the ran several months ago. Olsen squeaked in with the last spot (don't tell me that was strategic) with a time much slower than he ran a couple months ago.

Your theory sounds great, but doesn’t sound like the reality of what happened. What if their coach ran some of these kids into the ground back in February and now they are cooked?
