Great! So you'd be okay with Musk buying Twitter and then warning you repeatedly for being a stupid leftist and then banning when you don't change your opinions?
I’m okay with being banned from a platform if I clearly did not adhere to the rules of that platform. I wouldn’t use a platform that didn’t have a set of rules I wished to abide by.
You're ignoring the bit where the rules are arbitrary leftist nonsense. If you use the wrong pronouns you get banned. That's idiotic.
Twitter is too powerful and too influential to treat it as if it's a coffee shop. It's also the only game in town.
You do realize that Elon Musk is a liberal, right?
Maybe a classical Liberal. Musk is no way a Liberal as the American left refers to Liberalism today. Musk falls more in the Libertarian category although he definitely doesn't fit neatly in any category. Obviously as a big businessman he has been unafraid to take advantage of government handouts but he definitely hasn't shown much of an allegiance to the left or right.
Watching the freak-out over Musk who is a free speech absolutist try to takeover Twitter and open up the platform has been fantastic. Obviously the freakout over this has been coming from one side of the aisle. Hmmm....
Twitter has really damaged its brand but I think this has the potential to do permanent damage to Twitter. They have two options. They can do the best thing which is to either take up Elon on his offer or at least let him become the majority stakeholder and Twitter becomes more open, likely resulting in a huge economic boon for the company. Or they can go the stupid route, which is what I think they will do, refuse Elon's offer which will likely result in him selling all his shares, the stock price crashing, Twitter being completely exposed as anti free speech, and a leftist propaganda firm. There is a real risk if Elon is shut out that the damage done to Twitter results in a competitor taking the majority of the market share over the next 3-5 years.

HAHAHA I love when you just make up random BS. Twitter has 8% of the US social media market share. It's a small fish in a big pond. All content moderation rules are arbitrary... Twitter wants to create a product that its users want. I agree rules should be clear and enforced to the letter! Little room for subjectivity, but that's the kind of product I want.... it’s not necessarily the moderation framework that will make Twitter the most successful. I believe strongly in the global benefit of unfettered free speech. I think it’s in Twitters best interest to commit to such an ideal. I do not think it’s a big deal if they don’t.
I would probably say that those beliefs would be considered "moderate," not conservative.
Let's look at this another way. What would you say about those that still hold traditional GOP values? Don't you think that pendulum has also swung very far to the right?
I consider myself to be moderate. I'm probably right of center on economic issues and a bit to the left on social issues. I'm sort of Libertarian but not quite. Even the Libertarian party seems to have strayed a bit from their beliefs. I know people that claim to be Libertarian yet they're opposed to gay marriage and are in favor of dictating what the LGBTQ does. Those are not Libertarians.
It is odd that both parties are so polar now. I have friends that are liberal, conservative, and moderate. My conservative friends think that I'm becoming more liberal and my liberal friends think that I'm becoming more conservative. It's whacked...
Agreed, but something like saying that Men shouldn't be allowed to compete in women's sports, or housed in women's prisons will now get you tossed in with "the Right" in the view of the current Dems.
Saying that cities need to fund the police department and that looting is bad, will get you tossed in with "the Right".
I consider myself very very moderate, but the Dems have gone coo coo crazy on some of this stuff.
I agree with you fundamentally here, but when comparing 'crazy', how can you get much more crazy than the direction the GQP has gone? Anyone in the reasonable center, economically conservative but hands off/libertarian on social issues, has nowhere whatsoever to go. The Republicans essentially seem to have no policy proposals of their own; it's all about fear-mongering and 'owning the libs'. I'm a 62 year old white guy, software engineer so pay plenty in taxes; I am no big fan of the Biden administration but I'd vote for him all day every day for all eternity before I'd vote for Trump/Trumpism/Christofascism. The GQP is a dystopian disaster; perhaps if there was a trump equivalent on the left I'd be more inclined to throw my vote away on a 3rd party candidate.
Back on topic, I frankly get a kick out of Musk. Definitely don't worship at the Altar of Elon, but he shakes things up and I think we generally benefit from what he brings to the table.

I love that you're too stupid to understand the difference between Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook....
Twitter is partisan and more interested in defending the narrative than they are in making users happy.
Twitter and Facebook make up 80% of the market and they behave the same way. Zuckerberg literally spent over $400 million of his own money to buy the 2020 election...
The notion that these 2 companies having a decidedly leftist bias isn't a "big deal" is absurd. They are promoting misinformation under the guise of trying to prevent "misinformation".

You voted for pregnant men and tranny 3 year olds as the norm and you think the "christofascists" are the problem... LOL!!
Trump governed as a moderate. The GOP is right where it has been for decades. Meanwhile, the Democrats have shifted WAY to the left.
Partisanship: Everyone knows that the country is more politically polarized than ever, but most don't know why. Data from the highly respected Pew Research Center provides a definitive answer. It's... Read More
Liberals are now cheering for Vanguard, Blackrock, and Saudi Arabia… And against free speech, and the guy who pioneered electric cars and reinvented space travel.
The concept of free speech applies to public domain, i.e. the government doesn't have the right to restrict the speech of private individuals, no matter how abhorrent others may find it. Private companies have the right to restrict speech in whatever manner they want on their own platforms, so Twitter isn't violating free speech. Nevertheless, it is very much true that Twitter is evil, that they are suppressing opposition to totalitarian leftism. In the name of protecting people from false speech, they are suppressing true speech and promoting false speech, so they are the very evil they claim to be fighting. Twitter and the world will be far better off under Elon's control, although totalitarian leftist won't like it.

Yep.
Free speech is dangerous to democracy they tell us.

8%
8%
and you claim it’s a big influence.
you live in a hilarious little online culture war bubble.
Twitter's insiders essentially just decided to screw over their shareholders, crash their stock, and open the company up to massive lawsuits just to prevent Elon Musk from running Twitter in a way that won't rig elections or censor their political opponents.

The msm today is far more left than it was in decades past. The problem with cancel culture is that in the never ending battle to one-up each other in virtue signaling the vast majority of people will eventually find themselves outside the “popular opinion” and susceptible to cancelation. I think conservatives should fully support and aggressively encouraging censorship and cancelation since it will more rapidly lead to an increasingly marginalized (or splintered) “progressive left”… then maybe the rest of us can go back to having normal human conversations.
Leave your computer. Go talk to actual Americans. The vast majority of people don’t give a f**k what happens on Twitter.
17% of Americans get their news from Twitter. When elections are decided by a handful of votes it absolutely matters.
Actual Americans hate you. Biden is in the toilet for a reason.
LOL the majority of Americans don’t care who the president is. They don’t even vote! You truly live in a bubble. The culture wars are an online elite microcosm that has little bearing on reality.
go outside. Talk to people. See what really matters. It’s not Twitter… that’s for sure.
I want to re-emphasize that the average human has an exponentially larger voice and platform for speech than any time in history. The internet has enabled a speech explosion like never before. It’s a enormous benefit and step toward a globally free society. Couple this with the decentralization information/news distribution we have now it’s a remarkably more “free” society. Remember 30 years ago the average American had 2-3 options for news/info, a newspaper or two and TV network or two. We are in a MUCH better place now. To act like Twitter is a major player in this shift is so myopically naive it’s just embarrassing. Inflating your meaningless cause to provide self-worth perhaps?

People who don't vote don't matter politically...
The culture wars have a huge bearing on reality.... The culture wars ended slavery ffs...
Twitter impacts elections. Elections matter. You're ignorant about virtually everything. You caring or knowing about things isn't what gives them relevance...
