The Young twins didn't use the sick excuse in their podcast, only under fueling and underestimating the competition. Do you have a link to an actual source for this Doshi sick claim?
Nyet. Most of the time, fast twitch is to the detriment in XC. Aaron is an exception, and he isn't even a true sprinter type. Most pure 800 guys suck at cross, even the best ones. Brazier was 7th fully 33 sec behind Fisher in state xc.
Most good high school runners are good athletes but lack the fast twitch muscles to do well in high school. They are good in the youth sports, but when explosive speed is needed they just don’t have it. If the hs cross country team has a good culture they might running.

My kid is a xc runner and yet he is much, much faster than any of the competitive soccer players on his teams over the 300-800 yard warmups they do, and can even start out after all of them and easily beat them. He also wins most of the straight line sprints, but loses the change of direction sprints (reminiscent of Ronaldo vs. the sprinter in that video). Skill and quickness, not even long sprinting ability, tell on the soccer pitch, though endurance comes in handy in the second half when the others are tiring and even in the first half the non-xc runners (the rest of the teams) can't go up and down the field for long at all in games like my son can. So, I really don't believe the claim that soccer teams just have the better athletes than xc.

Newbury Park won the 2022 Nike Cross Nationals by convincing fashion despite having junior Dev Doshi affected by sickness and twins Lex and Leo Young each of...
Newbury is built off 5 brothers from two families, then recruiting already developed talent to run with the talented brothers. If the coach wanted to prove that he wasn't just the luckiest coach in history, then he should've stuck around for a decade or more after his Youngs and Sahlmans graduated.
According to the local paper, the 5 brothers live in Camarillo, not Newbury Park/Thousand Oaks. So it looks like they were recruited to Newbury Park. Camarillo is the next city over, but it is in a different school district.
