Please tell me the U.S. team does not have to come from these 5 ladies listed for the final.

If they do, that's an entire second, even more lost...
Nothing would shock me at this point.
I don't believe this is the case, FT. I just went to check Netherlands page, and Femke Bol is not listed. So I guess this site just lists the top five 400 runners from each country, regardless of accuracy.

You're probably right. It's the top 5 from the US Trials in alphabetical order.
Wasn't FloJo put on the 4X400 team at the last minute so she could get 4 golds? Maybe rules have changed since then.
what were the prelim splits?

Rules are wide open this year. You can replace the entire team from prelims to finals.
Anything other than Muhammad, McLaughlin, and Mu on the relay would be a travesty.
That almost convinces me that it will be something completely different than that.
So sad.

Why is everyone putting Mu on the first leg? She’s literally the only one on the team who does not practice her block start and acceleration, and you want to give her the one spot that does not get a running start. She’s an 800m runner, her acceleration is so much more garbage than any of the sprinters. Give her the running start that she needs and put her second. Let a sprinter take advantage of the block starts. Shouldn’t this be obvious?
No it is not obvious to hobby runners and armchair quarterbacks and many of the posters here who can only do long distances - the lazy man's races.

Mu should not be leadoff under any circumstance. she has zero sprint mechanics. it is a waste to use her out of the blocks. give her that running start. PRetty sure she has teh most to gain from getting the running start.
That's not true. Mu ran the 400M all season at NCAA . That's why she has one of the fastest times in the world in the 400M until the Mboma fraud. Mu has the NCAA record in the 400M which she set this year.

The open 400 girl should go first out of the blocks and just run a normal open 400..
Then Muhammad>McLaughlin>Mu
I think Muhammad is the most comfortable starting fast and would be able to make the break clean. Then Mu goes last so no one is near her with her enormous stride. She can power it home with no one to trip her.
