Cush, hope your wife's meniscus surgery is VERY minor trimming so she can gradually return to her enjoyments of running.
So my wife and I celebrated our 39th year of running together yesterday, by, of course, going for a run. Since her primary goal is to attempt a sub-7 mile at our KC Corporate Challenge track mile in early June, working on her speed is important. Since my goal is the KCCC 1/2 marathon in mid-May, starting to build up my long runs becomes primary. We were able to compromise somewhat with heading to a rather flat stretch of road next to a Country Club golf course about a mile and a quarter away from us, so she could do some repeats. The stretch is a little over 1/3 mile, and she did 3 of those, followed by 2 at about half that distance. I just kept running along. Her 3 longer one's averaged about 7:54 pace, with the shorter ones at 7:34, all in her training flats. Plus she got in a total of 7 miles for the day, a good day for her, and she felt it was a strong workout (we usually don't do more than 2 to 2.5 miles of speed on a day, so a good starter).
I met my goal of a 10 miler, my first since the bone chip in my heel healed up, in 1:40:05, with the last mile in 9:09, and the last 1/2 mile in 4:08. I was hoping to get that half under 4, but that's where I am at. If the day is nice, we might go to the track this Thursday providing we recover well from this.
Time to sign us up for KCCC, so we're not left out of the fun! Good health to you all!
