California Great Oak CA / Ventura CA / San Clemente CA
Southwest Herriman UT / American Fork UT / Lone Peak UT / Riverton UT / Niwot CO
Midwest
Northwest Coeur D’Alene ID / Jesuit OR / Crater OR
South Southlake Carroll TX / Austin Vandegrift TX
Southeast Belen Jesuit Prep FL
Northeast CBA NJ / Westfield NJ / Brookline MT
Heartland Stevens Point WI
New York Fairport NY
Revised list
- South can be in contention for an at-large too. Jesuit La vs Austin Vandegrift will be very interesting to watch, hope I can watch it live. I will go from Jesuit La hater to Jesuit la fan if they beat Vandegrift for an auto bid to nxn. I will be rooting for them top 10 finish at nxn maybe even better if they auto qualify.
- Northeast is very interesting, Westfield and Brookline. These are two teams that I have never heard of but it will be interesting to see each fight at nxr for the auto bid. I hope Westfield wins. CBA is the big standout team in this region.
- I feel like Ventura and Great Oak are untouchable in California but we will see at clovis. San Clemente feels like they are a step below.
- Northwest has some very motivated fans on here. Crater, Cour D Alene, Jesuit OR. We will see how good these teams really are coming NXR.
-New York very proud of these guys. They seem to be getting it together and have more depth team wise this year than last year. We will see if any of these teams can score top 10 finish at nxn.
-Heartland, just stevens point here. Southeast just Belen Jesuit.
-Midwest I feel like I am overlooking them because of jesuit la standout performance last year at nike twilight. Yes they may not have performed as well as jesuit la did in 2022, but that doesn't mean these teams are bad. They may just be getting ready to peak, and we might be suprised by what they can do.
Rocky Mountain wins pretty comfortably over Star Valley - Important to note that Heemeyer ran 15:20. In 2019, Nathan Green ran 15:19 on this course and went on to get 2nd at NXR NW and 11th at NXN.
Cody Lucas at 15:29 isn't far behind that mark either.

Not a fan of Jesuit LA skipping RL. I think they should have stuck with Running Lane over trying for NXN. Going after Nike 5 days after state seems like an injury risk when you are competing at this level. Probably why no LA runners have ever made NXN.

Florida’s state meet is Nov 17.
Their NXR is Nov 19.
This is something that Belen Jesuit Prep will have to go through
yeah, belen jesuit will dominate no matter what, they could tempo and win. jesuit la has to beat vandegrift to auto bid to nxn, they have to be in peak condition

Is this really that different than a Saturday race and racing Thursday the next week? Like they should be fine
174 (ran in the Championship but not the Sweepstakes race)

So Niwot actually has 8 guys faster than Riverton’s 4th. An in fact, Niwot’s top 2 are better than Riverton’s top 2 (according to the speed ratings)
Niwot’s 6th and 7th can displace Riverton’s 4th and 5th runners, and on a bigger field like NXR, this will give Riverton even more points from positions 4 and 5.
The speed ratings for this meet are very different from others held at the same venue and on the same course.
At Pre Region, which is the exact same course, running a 16:05 earned a 170
Now I know there’s slight variation in the course and whatnot, but an 8 point difference on the EXACT same course (with presumably very similar conditions) just seems a little off to me.
Also dyestat individual rankings came out for boys and girls top 10 -

NXN will never be an equal playing field until each state has state on the same day and each NXR meet is hosted on the same day (similar to the NCAA conference and regional set up). Some states have weeks between state and nxr. Florida has one day between. California gets to peak for their state meet, have that count as NXR, and ride that fitness into nationals. Some states are allowed to race 7th and 8th graders on their NXN teams and others aren’t, although this is more for girls. Until all 50 states get on a unified schedule (this will never happen), NXN will always favor some states over others. But NXN is still by far the best thing we have going in our sport.

California also also has to race every week for 4 weeks before NXN. League finals, CIF prelims, Cif finals, State, and NXN. Cif prelims and finals are also held at mt sac. That's a lot of racing 4 week prior to nxn. Sure it's nice we can use the state meet for NXR but it's not perfect situation.

Cody Lucas at 15:29 isn't far behind that mark either.
Also Luke Athay raced again, 16:01 on a course like this isn't terrible. Still a month or so before NXR for him to get closer to his former fitness.
Why lie about something so easy to check? Green ran 15:14 that year. I commented in the Idaho thread. Green had a DNF at Firman due to health and was racing cautiously all year due to a scary heart incident. He won by 21 seconds. Why hammer further and risk something if you are blowing out the field anyways?
Niwot rightfully in the #3 spot for SW. They have 7 boys who have run under 15:40 for 5k this season and 12 who've broken 16. None of them are seniors.

Niwot does deserve the #3 spot in the SW.
I don’t think Orem should be #4 over Riverton and Lone Peak.
Classical Academy is #5 but are they better than Riverton and Lone Peak?
I think Niwot is better than people think they are. But I also think the same logic applies for Riverton and Lone Peak. I am on the side that Herriman-AmericanFork-LonePeak-Riverton will go 1-2-3-4 at NXR Southwest. Niwot is young and talented and that NXN experience will be essential for 2024 when they go for the win. NXR southwest can't come sooner.

I’m not sure there’s any lying intent, it’s just a poor comparison. Athay ran a 15:05 on the course in the same race in 2021 Danny Simmons ran a 15:16. Both went on to do well at their respective post season regional and national meets and earn preseason top-25 rankings as Juniors.
That said, Heemeyer probably started the race too fast on the downhill and opened up a huge lead. He wasn’t challenged and it looked like he may not have won by more than his lead was a mile and a quarter in. It’s not a hard course, but you can get lured into crushing the first mile downhill then struggling more than you should for the rest. I think he easily could have cut at least 10 seconds with better pacing and a few peers to push him.
