I'm pretty sure Wilson hit every hurdle

More history in a distance race. That was the slowest winning time since 1955 (and slowest in a 5000m since 1952):

Horrible. Of course, only having NINE MEN in the race partly contributed to this.

Why don't they just have 400m or 800m races for all of these distances. Just call it a 5000m, but just let them run 800m.
Idiots for having this so called championship event in Iowa in the summer, really smart. These races are meaningless. Ridiculous....back to the Diamond League for some real running.
Pretty much.
Wilson may and I say may have cleanly cleared ONE hurdle.

Ryan Wilson wins it! who is he?
13.08 wilson, 13.11 oliver, 13.23 merritt
richardson has a bye i think
You are obviously not a track fan if you don't know Ryan Wilson.
Agreed, no tactics just run hard for the distance.

If Ben True had not done that do you think he could have outsprinted Ryan Hill or do you think doing what he did was his best chance?
Hill needs to run the B standard of sub 13:20 which will be really tough considering his PR is just 13:31. True already has the B standard so he's in if Hill can't do that.

1994 was the last time that these guys today would have been within a minute of the winner! And they would of all been lapped by these guys, as well...
Ryan Hill was entered with a 13:26, so I have to assume that he ran that somewhere. Who knows when though. Still, he's got to get under 13:20 to go. Hopefully that means True is in.
Horace Ashenfelter woulda had a chance today

True has the A standard. The selection process is retarded. If there were an actual coach selecting the team, there would be no question at all who goes, B standard or not. It is one reason the US mostly loses.
Back when the Iron Curtain was around, Americans always made a big deal about how their athletes had to run themselves ragged to beat each other, so they'd lose to other countries that hand-picked their teams. But nobody ever did anything about it and they still haven't.
Bernard Lagat 3:55.05
Ryan Hill 3:55.44
Galen Rupp 3:55.68
Benjamin True 3:56.22
Andrew Bumbalough 3:57.58
Garrett Heath 3:59.51
Elliott Heath 4:02.39
Chris Solinsky 4:10.29
Hassan Mead 4:12.35
maybe if someone went into a comma people would be happy!
I was thinking True set his PR at NY at 13:16 - I forgot he broke 13:15 at Stanford. However since both Lagat and Rupp have A standards it doesn't matter. I think Hill has a chance to run the sub 13:20 B standard - 6+ seconds from last summer doesn't seem to impossible. He took off 5+ from 2011 to 2012 so he just need to do that again (easy right?)

obviously is not exactly the correct word here...I got into running in 2011. what has he done since then? according to some quick interneting, not much. pardon me. 2012 was pretty much the aries merritt show with a little J Rich thrown in and D Oliver.
ok. Has anyone figured out the A/B issues for the W and M 5000? And the W 1500 I suppose.
I'm going for a run - I'll expect the answers when I get back. Or else.
As a Jersey girl, loved that Horace Ashenfelter reference.
I know we are supposed to be glad that there is any coverage of track & field on TV, but this coverage is just so sad. How hard would it have been for them to mention that Shannon Rowbury was 3rd in the 5k? It was like 3rd place didn't matter. Had to figure it out from the replays but they never said it out loud, I don't think.
Also, appalled by the apparent lack of fact checking for the stats displayed on screen, i.e., Webb's AR in 1987 (when he was, what, 4 yrs old?) and today showing the women's 5k AR still belonging to Shalane. How do they come up with this? Do they just ask Craig Masback what he thinks it is and take his word for it? Or do they ask Tom Hammond?
Or maybe they get their data from USATF?
While I am venting, I want to complain about USATF's own website, which said the TV coverage today would be on Universal Sports from 3-4 & NBC Sports from 4-6. Believing they should know, I missed an hour of coverage. It was actually on NBC Sports from 3-4 and then regular NBC from 4-6, as I realized when I checked NBC Sports a little before 4 pm!
