mo'pak, this is amazing stuff you have shared.
Not to try to top you, because that would be impossible, but two years ago I was run down in a crosswalk by a speeding car. I was knocked unconscious and suffered three fractures to my skull. There was bleeding in my brain and I spent five days in three hospitals, mostly Mass. General in Boston.
If the car had hit me squarely, head-on, I would have been killed. But before impact I managed to spin backward just enough, that the car struck me a glancing blow and I went over the hood and then hit the ground.
My right lower leg (of course the right leg again!) was bruised and there was a raised lump on one of the bones there. But no broken leg bones or any other serious damage to my legs, just scrapes.
Somehow though I just haven't been the same since, in many ways. I lost hearing in my right ear which was near the fractures. My back pain is worse; I have pain and numbness in my right shoulder and right arm (sometimes the left arm too); worst of all I don't feel as mentally sharp.
(In case you were wondering, there was no money for me in any of this. The driver was under-insured and my own car insurance--even though I was a pedestrian--had to pay most of my medical bills. I got nothing extra at all.)
For several months after the accident I couldn't run at all, because the jouncing hurt my brain and gave me an instant headache. So I walked a lot of miles around town, just to get out and moving.
Now I can run a bit--not fast. And like you, I have various physical issues. But as you say, there are often things we can do to mitigate the physical issues. As Charlie and others here have said, there is always something else you can try, to help you get back out there.
