It's ok. I feel like they were forced to put a team in the midwest/heartland region in the top 10 mix. Steven Point is a much better option then the alternative which would have been Downers Grove North, Jesuit La, Carmel, Wayzata.
Insane the last wild card from NXRSW is ranked 6th in the USA. Good for RLN, but I think this hurts NXRSW long term since the course is now slower than the one from the 2010's. Like the entire point of colorado teams with no chance going was to run Sea level prs. Desert twilight is definitely hurting this year because of the slower course.
Desert Twilight is not at the NXN-SW Course (Coyote Run GC) this year; it's at Toka Sticks GC, which has been the fastest of the 5 courses that have been used for Regionals (2010-2013).
I know teams that did not go to Desert Twilight this year because it wasn't at the Regionals course.
-5 to the speed ratings on CBA is equivalent to performances we have so far in the west and heartland (my opinion, I could very very very wrong). 184,183,176,175,175.
Thanks for update. Based on this I’d see them as a top 10-15 team at NXN. Not a good sign the 8th grader was #1 runner last year. They need to develop their upper class men more or not run dry by end of season to be a threat to the big distance programs.
Well, looks like they were able to develop underclassmen. Josh Ruiz (Sr) won the Southern Showcase

are we sure this isn't a similar case to jesuit la last year? that team also had "4+ 180 speed ratings" the thing is they are not going against any well known teams and a team we never heard of Brookline is apparently super legit. According to these ratings they are better than American Fork / Herriman, yet I highly doubt that will be the case at nationals
Apparently this was a small invitational, "Bowdoin XC Classic" only had 62 teams competing. The top 3 teams at this meet all had better speed ratings than every other big invitational in the country. Woodbridge had 469 teams, Roy Griak 218, Wingfoot Classic 151, Bob Firman 151, Adidas XC Challenge 130, Southern Showcase 133.
Unless the 3 best teams in the nation just happened to run at the same race that only included 62 teams, these speed ratings are probably a good comparison to Jesuit La and Carmel's speed ratings last year at Nike XC Town Twilight, 75 teams. It is possible that we will see speed ratings go up across the board, so we shouldn't compare them to earlier invitational.
You could also do research and see this course is the nxr ne/ny course and look at the history of speed ratings at this meet or nxr, noting that it is not necessarily crazy. And realistically, yes cba is a top 3 team right now, Westfield is probably a top 5-10 team (look at spring track times in addition to performance at Bowdoin), and Brookline ran very well. Also just look at previous results at this meet, and look how well these teams performed. They are legit, as are many teams throughout the country, but this is not out of the question...
CBA and Westfield race each other tomorrow at Holmdel, so another big time race could be on the horizon.
I feel like there is a strong misconception on how to use speed ratings, or analyze what they are or should be for a particular race...
Holmdel will have speed ratings that are way too high, Bill Meylan is so biased towards that course, and teams in the Northeast.
I don't think it's bias, I just think its just a simple mistake, speed ratings are low early season. Once establish courses are run speed ratings go up by +5.
CBA strikes me as a mature team with lots of experience at NXN. They probably know how good they are when compared to previous teams that were sent to NXN. If anyone knows best it would be them.

Yep. They probably won’t make a bunch of posts on here about how insane their speed ratings are, how they are better than Newbury Park, and how their top 5 are going to break 4 in the mile, etc.
cba vs westfeld tomorrow will be interesting. I wonder if I can watch it live anywhere so I can look at the course. I agree that these teams are good teams, but we will see just how good they are come nxn.
Niwot boys were a big surprise here. They won both the sweepstakes and championship races. If you look at the results of both races they had 11 runners ahead of highly ranked 2nd place team ThunderRidge’s 3rd runner. None of them are seniors.

I think Herriman and Niwot will be the best 2 teams in both Southwest and the nation next year. Herriman has 4 juniors in their top 7.
