Theres fools and thers liars. What part of the original 8x800m/5k question were they supoosed to not uderstand?
Dude sets forth a workout then asks a question. I'd say 13:25 myself.
But one is obviously a big liar.
Jammer you crack me up. How's Running Dogg today?

You missed the point. No respectable coach with even a modicum of intelligence is going to suggest a race time based on a single workout. It's simply foolish not to mention unprofessional. Equally foolish is an athlete taking advice like this from someone who does not know more than one day of the athlete's training schedule. Give me a break. Both these guys are morons, in my opinion. And if you would really suggest a 13:25 based on that single workout, then you're a moron too!
Are you gonna tell me thatif you stand at a track and watch someone do that workout in those times and those recoveriesthat you have no clue wether they are in 13 min shape or 15 min shape or 19min shape? Coe did a 7x800m with 45sec rests starting 2:06 going to 1:58 and from that people have always said he had a 13:10 in him. It's just common sense. So stop calling someone a moron for answering the question. You can however call Running Dogg a moron for posting the workout and then racing 19 min something which proved that he is also a liar.

That is exactly what I'm saying. No coach worth his salt would offer ever offer an opinion on a race performance based on one workout. I don't even know what the times were for this alleged workout, but that doesn't make any difference as far as I'm concerned. The common sense you refer to is the sense not to offer an opinion based on such little knowledge. (It is highly unlikely that anyone offering an opinion on what Coe could run only knew about a single session.)
Let me give you a little test. A real athlete I know did this workout yesterday: 3 x 400 @ 78 (78" rest), 4 x 300 @ 55 (55" rest), 5 x 200 @ 36 (33" rest). What 1 mile and 2 mile race times can this athlete do now?
Ok, I did 4x1200 with 200 jog. Did the 1200s in 3:38, 3:36, 3:40, 3:35. Felt real easy and I'm sure I could have done a few more. I wasn't sure what pace to use, so I guess I took it too easy. Anyway, now tell me what you think I can run for a 5K. Thanx.
To Hey!:-Bingo. a letsrun classic. Still steaming away in part1,
To Jammer: IF (and that is a big IF) that runner was really pushing it, then I say 5:20 and 11:20 and now I expect you to say something totally diff to that. How could you not?
But there was no way Running Dogg wasn't going hard on those famously BS 800s tho, LOLOLOL.

How can you be so sure that fellow was running hard, but it's suddenly a "big IF" for my runner? I have not seen the original post, so I'm unsure of exactly what was written. Can you point me to it so that I can see for myself? Thanks.
As for your predictions, you were pretty close with the 1 Mile time but were way off on the other one. This just proves my point that it is difficult, if not impossible, to accurately predict a race time based on a single workout. No knowledgeable coach would suggest otherwise.
530am - 7 miles in 49:00
Jammer, you're wasting your time. Did you know you are arguing with Skuj? Some say he's no longer here, but he is and you've fallen into his trap. He yaps about some imaginary workout that RD did, but can't show you the post because it's been "deleted." Ya sure. If you believe that, I've got some land in Florida to sell you. Ha ha. Skuj is just mad because RD started this thread and Skuj got muscled out. Ha ha.
another early AM run....36' in the dark and cold.....yuck....kicked a dog....that felt good
For all those interested in this thread:
Today AM - 11 mi in around 72' - felt fine, but now and COLD on the way to Wisconsin, so getting some miles in before the weekend
Tonight - 6-7 mi.
For all those interested in arguing:
The other day I beat Tony Hawk Pro Skate in 13 minutes, ate a whole large pizza in 7 minutes and took a 21 minute dump - all with 45" rest...... what can i run a 5k in?

LOL. You know its gone fembot. You just outed urself.
C'mon -keep up the lie but
PLEASE don't say the 2:06-1:59 800s with short recovery were anything but HARD LOL.
So I'm close with the mile and way off with the 2 mile. So if a person does a 5:20 mile race the 2 miles is way off 11:20. LOL. How was your imaginary massage today? ;)

Part 1 page 24 for
Running Doggs 4x1200; "Hey!" posted it a few posts back.
Lines up nicely with a 19:42 5k LOLOLOLOL.
Running Dogg how many young people read ur stuff and think its true? I tcould be quite a few.
Just think about that before you post your next pile of BS; Althou its amusing its also having a not very funny side. There was a lot of responseto that 8x800m.

I told you I had not seen the original post, so I remain unsure of the wording including times and recovery. I also asked you to point me to the actual post, but I see you have not done that. Another poster suggested it is a figment of your imagination, so I guess you are just trolling looking for a little laugh. It's also been brought to my attention that you are Skuj, which explains a lot.
Speaking of outing oneself, your implication that a 5:20 mile converts to an 11:20 deuce speaks volumes about your knowlege (or lack thereof).
I'm done. Enjoy your self-massages, Skuj.
".....your implication that a 5:20 mile converts to an 11:20 deuce speaks volumes about your knowlege (or lack thereof)."
Using the widely accepted 4 second rule, the 5:20 mile at 80 seconds per quarter would mean 2 miles at 84 seconds per quarter, which totals 11:12. I'm confident that most performance charts would agree roughly with this. While I'm enjoying this exchange with a slight degree of bored curiousity, I would appreciate a serious response from Jammer to the statement that he made which I quoted above.
Thank you.
Hey!
I'm happy to respond to your civil question. First, the "4 second rule" you cite is hardly widely accepted among knowledgeable coaches. It is a lazy person's method for avoiding a more meaningful calculation. I'm not sure what you think "roughly" means, but I'd say the performance charts would suggest at least something close to 11:40 or more for an equivalent time. A conversion using VO2max percentages yields 11:44.
