Yes, I realize they are HS teams. A lot of CO and Utah teams fly to other races during the season. If they want to WIN, it would help them. If you don't race competition all season it will hurt you when you get to nationals. If they don't want to win, then they should keep doing the same thing they're doing.
That doesn’t change how crazy that is. I also have a feeling a lot of the Utah/Co schools do it to have a race not at 5000’. I also expect that most of those flights are pretty short ones to CA. I am not sure where on the east coast they could go for deep meet.
I would love to see exact states but my impression is that a lot of schools will struggle just based on size herriman has 3000 kid in 10-12 grade. Cba is 876 boys in 9-12. That is less than half the number of boys. That is a tough handicap for anyone to overcome. My impression is that most of the Northeast is similar where the big high schools being 3k kids compared things like herriman and woodlands which are 4k. I would be curious if anyone has actually run the numbers. I do know if my 1500 kid school could have double are numbers we would have Ben a threat to win. Replacing our 16:20 4th/5th guys with a 9:15 and 15:30 runner would have helped a ton. The second sub 4:10 miler would have been the icing on the cake.
