Yeah, but wrote:

The former Oregon coach used to say "we" all the time when speaking to his runners. A coach and an athlete are a team, a partnership, is that a hard concept to understand?
Have you ever had a coach? My guess is you're coach didn't care too much about your performance, and that you've never performed nearly outstanding as Rupp has, even relative to your own talent (or lack thereof) level.
Get a life. These guys are rocking and rolling, you are whining and bitching. If I was to choose, I'd be them.
Thanks for pointing the finger at me, but I'm not the one this thread is about. It's about the legendary Alberto and his statements to the media over the past year. There's a big difference in speaking to your athletes in private or making reference to the entire team vs. using the media to blurt out self serving statements. Great coaches let their athletes speak for themselves, they do not seek out opportunities to use the media to promote themselves unless they are angling for something else. Alberto is using Rupp and his own historic performances to gain the spotlight. OK, obviously he misses it and enjoys the attention. I believe Alberto is living in a dream state induced by too much prozac. That is a scary prospect if you are his athlete. But hay, "rock on dude".
BTW, I have not seen a quote TO THE MEDIA by McDonald of Arkansas, Fry of South Carolina, Clark of Tennessee, Groves of Penn State, or any of the other "respected" coaches of this country who refer to an INDIVIDUAL athlete using the term "WE".
Dig them up and post them here, and provide me with the link so I can read it myself.
