Yeah corporate allegiance was what I assumed. Even then, though, for a publication hoping to grow the sport there has to be a way to provide coverage to one of the sport's best stories of the year.
I'll admit that I likely don't understand all the nuances of the corporate allegiance side of things (I'm going to listen to that Citius podcast now actually to hopefully get a better appreciation for it), and I'm guessing it was in Citius's advertising contract with New Balance that they wouldn't provide coverage of Nike Nationals.
But in my personal opinion I think any advertising contract that forbids coverage of an entire event shouldn't be agreed upon, especially an event that has a story that has the opportunity to grow the sport so much. You don't see publications ignoring events/stories like that due to corporate allegiances in other sports, so I don't think it should be the same in track/running.
I don't mean this as an attack on Citius, and so I hope Kyle (if he sees this) doesn't take it that way. I'm sure there are nuances within the New Balance deal that I certainly don't and will never be able to get insight into; I really just want to start a discussion on this topic (mostly because, for what it's worth, I feel like the Heroes vs. Villains story was something Citius would've had a field day with and would've created some fantastic content about).
