So I learned today that I didn't get a job I had interviewed for. I'm in my mid-20's, in the banking industry, and it's not an entry-level job, but not management either.
I spoke to the hiring manager about why I didn't get it, and he said it was because my personal style didn't mesh with that of their clients and the rest of the team. He said that they wouldn't be able to identify with me, which is important to the job. He mentioned my style of suit, my haircut, and my watch (which is a nice Seiko that cost about $200).
I asked for specific details and we waffled, but he mentioned the watch a couple more times. Something like, "I don't expect you to wear a Rolex, but for god's sake anything but a Seiko."
I'm really mad because all of the watch forums talk about what great watches Seiko's are, and how their quality is just as good as the Swiss brands but they're so much cheaper. So what gives?
Is what he did even legal?
Why did he think my watch is so bad? And what watch should I wear?
