Much "speedier" stride when compared to Hunter. It's been exciting to see the distance guys coming up through the ranks these past few years.

Seeing the video, it looked like his teammate pacer ran out of gas and MS almost ran into him a couple of times on the back stretch and then overtook him after the turn on lap 2 - (3 seconds slower than lap 1?).
His dad shoots better footage on his iphone, or whatever it is, than a lot of pro productions I've seen. Dude needs to go pro. :)
Did you see in the video that his pacer stopped in front of the kid running in third tripping him?
Yes, that part was unfortunate
very impressive how smooth he is in the video. I wouldn't be surprised at all by a 3:55 at pre if he gets in. They haven't been too inclined in recent years to bring in the high schoolers, though.

Austin Tamagno know's sub-4 pace by heart, he could easily take them out at 1:59-2:01
Tamagno, Hunter, Slagowski, Fisher, are all about the same age. Fisher is in University. Maton is a year older than the three of them. I believe a 19 (or soon to be 19 year old in HS) gains a big physical advantage over a more conventional aged HS athlete (17 turning 18). Such times from such kids should be compared to Freshman at University. Haney is essentially the same age as Maton and just busted a 3:40 at Payton Jordan, Maton ran 3:45. Fisher is essentially the same age as the three HS guys and just busted a 13:39 and has run two 3:42's so far this year. All of these guys are excellent and there will be others as well. One year, or 6 months, does make a difference with boys.
hunter has more endurance. one goes down in distance, one goes up.hunter is a 5k runner as a pro, not that hard to see.

slagowski has more upside than hunter
he has 22 second speed!
Nice comprehensive assessment.
not to take away from the kid's achievement. but did anyone notice that the rabbit took down one of the leaders when moving off the track at 800m?
hopefully they let the field know he was the rabbit. and that's why when you're rabbiting, you always try to peel off on the straightaway.

Hmm...I'm seeing 3:42.4 everywhere, such as here:

Tamagno looks like he has a 3:58 in him this season if he gets in the right race. He needs to be at Pre as well.
Slagowski's full race (his dad shot the vid):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h-nO6p6L1Q
Slagowski's teammate and pacer tripped a kid who fell on his face right after 800.
Wow that pacer was a moron. Made a kid hit the track with his carelessness.

Is there any other type?

Thanks pert.
Not taking anything away from the incredible athletes mentioned. All of those young men should be celebrated. More importantly, they should be held up when something doesn't go right. Things can't go right all of the time, athletes don't set PB's in every race and don't set records every year they run even though as fans we would like them to.
My point on age was to shed light on observed changes in strength/performance with boys that are 17 to 19 and my feeling that essentially 19 year old HS senior times should be compared with 19 year old college freshman times. Yes, training in college is often different/better/more; so to are the first year demands of college that can take away from performances.
Fisher is 5 months older than Hunter. He fell into the middle to younger age range as a senior with a spring birthday. Don't know Tamagno's birthdate or Slagowski's. Still not sure why everyone persists in saying that Hunter is over-age. He turned 18 in September of his senior year-older than most but not outside the normal range.
The other variable is mileage. Hunter runs about 40% more miles than Fisher did in HS (70 v. 50), so in lifetime miles the two may be fairly comparable. At this point I would assume that Fisher is getting more in terms of interval/race pace training at Stanford whereas Hunter is on the "critical velocity" program with tinman. It will be a couple of years before we see the two training and competing on more or less equal terms considering volume, quality and race schedule. In any event they are both progressing nicely.
Slagowski is definitely a wild card in this story.
Drew Hunter is not going to be racing against Michael at this point at the Pre Classic because Hunter is running in a different race then Slagowski. A lot of people are wondering why they can't get them in the same one though.
It will be interesting once 20/20 hindsight sets in, if either of these two impressive HS runners have peaked prior to the Pre Classic. Pre Classic is a long time away.
