Adam Nelson had a pretty good track career. He is the only Dartmouth athlete that I could think of, so maybe there are better ones.
The Dartmouth goat is Adam Nelson - end of story.
To say anyone else is a joke.
The Kempaiinen vs. True debate is interesting. I mean the times of this era are way faster but I don't think you can just say "True" without thinking about it like so many people have.

But that's not everything. I'd like to see a list of Heps titles won. In terms of Heps xc titles, True was way better. 3 in xc to Kemp's 0 (not sure about track titles) but that doens't mean True had the better xc career.
Kempainen was the best NCAA xc runner in league history even though he never won a heps. He went to NCAAs three times and finished in the top 15 three times.
Bob Kempainen, Dartmouth [1985 (14), 1986 (4), 1987 (11)]
True never cracked the top 30.
Ben True, Dartmouth [2005 (32), 2006 (59), 2008 (53)
]
Here are the NCAA All-American honors.
Kempainen - 6
True - 1.
Kempainen also led dartmouth to a 2nd place showing in the team standings.
Kempainen also is a 2-time Olympian and a US champ in XC and the marathon (won the 1996 trials was showing up).. True has zero Olympic appearances and zero US titles. Kempainen also was a 2nd at the New york city marathon in 1993.
Now True has won a DL 5000 and was 6th at 5k at Worlds and in World xc.
If True make an Olympic team, then I think you can say true. But given how much emphasis is put on the Olympics, I am not sure you can now say that.
Kempainen had the better college career and has been to two Olympics.
