Until Rupp proves otherwise, I think his closing speed is a major question mark. Its becoming doubtful to me that his 2012 form, when he ran down Lagat in a 53 second final lap, will ever return.
Maybe it just reflects a shift in training and the speed will be there at the WC. But again, I'm doubtful.
Note to self -- bet life savings on Galen Rupp at next opportunity.
Two things worth noting. First, making a world team is like being pregnant: it's a matter of either/or. I'm fairly sure in Beijing no one will be saying, "Well, he isn't eligible to win a medal because he falls into 'the barely made it' class." Second, of the thousands of people who have written on this website, how many have made a US World Team? Yes--it's a very small number. Making a world team is an amazing accomplishment. Coming in third in the US nationals is an amazing accomplishment. Don't deflate its value by your trollish eagerness to spite Rupp.

Finally got to watch the race, and wow. Rupp just got smoked. Barely even made the team.
For the love of fvcking God, can you please stop using the lame expression 'takes down'

The entire Subject line is an embarrassment. Rojo grow up. You don't sound cool ... you sound like an idiot.

lol I'm pretty sure someone who runs 3:51 indoors can beat 1:50
Indoors isn't slower than outdoors anymore, if anything indoors times can be faster because the conditions are more controlled.
What (witch hunt approved) runner does Rupp match up closely with?
Rupp:
800m - 1:50.00 (I think he did go 1:49 on oversized indoor track once)
1500 - 3:34.15
Mile indoor - 3:50.9
Mile - 3:52.11
3000m - 7:30.16
2 Mile indoor - 8:07.41
Adam Goucher - 1:50.03
1500 - 3:36.64
Mile - 3:54.17
3000m - 7:34.96
2 Mile - 8:12.73
Rupp is basically Adam Goucher with better 10000m endurance (because Rupp has never been injured, the opposite of Goucher), so +2 secs at 1500m, +4 at 3k, +5 at 2 miles.
Didn't Rupp close his 26:44 in something like 1:57? He was tired from running the 10k in the heat, more so than True, who has proven to be a fine heat runner. 4:00 is a quick close, yes, but he didn't look quite himself.
