30x400 repeats, 60-59s, with 45 sec rest. It sounds crazy but I was in top form. Two weeks later, I run 5:02 for 2k and 13:17 for 5k.

24 x 400m (72-74) w/ :30 rest. By myself. Hardest workout I have ever done.
2 by mile (flat) at 5k pace: 3 min rest
8min rest
2.5 mile tempo at close to 10k pace
8min rest
2 by mile (mostly up hill) at 5k pace: 3 min rest
(2x1000 off 3) then 5 min rest ( 4x500off 1min)
2:35 avg. 74 avg
No one has reported Zatopek's rumored 2 sets of 50 x 400's with 200M jog recovery in a day...
I recall reading about 25 years ago, so I'm fuzzy on the details, that once Zatopek had to care for his elderly mother so he couldn't leave the house. He ran in place for a couple hours in the bathtub on towels. Also I think he won the European titles in 1950 or so after appendicitis and basically 2 months bedrest, but lapped the 10 k field.
