Be nice EddyT, I like ShawnH except when I don't agree with him.
Back to the topic at hand, I love that Disney made a movie about XC. It is a great true story.
I just wish running movies captured the grace and beauty of running. It's like if you made a movie about Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers you'd want actors who can actually dance.
Thanks, "OTD." I like you, too, my friend. I'm sorry to have gone off topic, but when people ask me a sincere question or make a direct statement to me that is off topic, should I just ignore it? Why waste an opportunity to show off my great wisdom or "shill" a bit? LOL.
As for what you're saying back on topic, I totally agree. I wish running movies could somehow have actors who can really run convincingly for those of us with an "eye" for our sport. Running Brave wasn't bad because Robby Benson was a good actor for the role, since Billy Mills is half Indian and half white and Benson could actually run well at the time. The Pre movie wasn't bad because the actor--I'm not going to look him up because most of you know what I mean--appeared to be a decent runner. I didn't care much for The Jericho Mile because, although it had a good story line, the actor had a choppy-looking, muscular stride that just didn't fit the usual miler smoothness and build. There have been other running movies with much worse actors in the role of the star runner. I'm very interested to see how Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) will do while portraying the great Seb Coe. If he can pull off anything close to Coe without a stunt double, it will be a miracle. I think it's much easier to make a movie with football players, basketball players, etc. They can even choreograph some fight movies that make the actors look like they can actually fight, but I'm sure MMA guys watch those movies and say, "Geez, my sister could kick that guy's ass." At least with a teenage cross country movie like this one, you don't have to portray great runners.
