If she turned up to jog around then fair enough have a moan but 2.32 at that stage of her pregnancy... Damn!

ABC and CBS both covered track on the morning shows!
Sure, it was "the idiots guide to track coverage" - wow she ran so fast, no mention it was a heat, her place, the winner, etc, but even given all the problems I have with the coverage being summed down to "a light hearted feel good story" - track was on the morning news. Without her doing this, no track on the morning news.
So, gotta give her credit! Mainstream press that is not covering a doping scandal... in 2:32 she did more for Outdoor Nationals media exposure than USATF has.

Didn't seem like Martinez thought too highly of it.

Good for her.
This is why Martinez has a world champ medal and Mantano doesn't. One of them is a CHAMPION and the other pulls publicity stunts.

Haha, sadly this is the case for me too. I was going to post this as soon as I saw her time.

Haha, you are a bitter, bitter person. Go out for a run and loosen up buddy.
This was CNN this morning

you're right. strange answer. "I don't want to say anything?" can't she just say "congrats to her" and move on. That really surprises me.
Bad look for Brenda.
First, 2:32 in that condition is impressive.
I ran 1:49 in my day but now in my 40's I appreciate that a 2:32 half is running.
It probably looks bad against women running close to 2 flat.
For a prelim, this is great exposure for track. I found out about this on a headline news feed.
Otherwise, USATF would not have been mentioned.
The finals will focus on the real competitors, so this is not a distraction.
Brenda didn't want to talk about it. I think she just should have laughed it off.
She was biting her lip. Probably doesn't like how Montano runs with the flower in her hair and brings attention to herself a lot.
I'd like to see Martinez do some photo shoots to bring attention to the sport. That fact that she is pretty and a medal contender is a good combo.

Does it not bother you that they mention nothing about the actual race or winner? Have we gotten so "progressive" that a good story is more important in sports than winning?
Aw, you're cute. One of those little boys on the autism spectrum who thinks this is a real pro sport.
(It isn't, at least at the USATF nationals, which is proven by half of the 1500 pros skipping the meet.)
Montano running pregnant is more interesting than Galen Rupp sitting and kicking a 10,000 at his half marathon pace. Pathetic.
What do you think being "progressive" has to do with the joke level of USATF nationals? If the stars other Montano actually did something, or show up, maybe ESPN would cover that, too.

Exactly this.

I agree, but this logic doesn't make what she did any better. They're both fools. Rupp did the absolute least work in order to win against a mostly weak 10k field (I guess I can't blame the guy if he's running the 5k). And Montano is making a championship meet look silly by being in no shape to run but still taking a spot anyway. I don't care if pregnant women run, but if she wanted to race, she should've picked a non-championship meet.
NYPost got more details than the morning news shows. And Asics just got their $ worth from this sponsorship. Logo on shoe and shorts right there in the mainstream press.

Question for all of you... Do you have more respect for Montano for showing up to race the championship race that she won last year, no matter what her current condition is - or do you have more respect for Flanagan not bothering to show up this year to defend her title in order to focus on her training for a fall marathon?
I've been a big fan of Flanagan for a long time, but in this case Montano gets my respect. If it was a case where Montano showed up to race injured or undertrained due to not putting the effort in I would feel differently, but in this case 2:32 shows she has been staying in shape during her pregnancy.
I'm curious as to whether she did a typical warmup routine or just kind of did some strides and stretching.
At least she didn't go out too fast for a change...
I'll preface this statement by saying that I don't dislike either runner and think it was cool that Montano brought publicity to the sport, good for her for giving such an effort out there.
However, I really admire Brenda Martinez for always being such a competitor. She is one of the toughest runners we have (read up on her background a bit, most of her childhood friends are in jail/in the drug trade, etc.) and is there to win (definitely not an attention seeker).
Montano's story made the morning drive time radio news ... track/running does not make the news here, unless it is to expect traffic delays on Saturday due to the marathon.

Seems a bit dicey to enter a race where you could very realistically get tripped up by another runner and take a fall, even if she only had other runners around her at the start. Although I don't know, maybe a womb is protective enough that injury to the fetus would be unlikely from a running fall.
Yes, yes! And what about all those other women who are running at the risk of their uteruses falling out. Thank God for big, strong men like you to be thinking of the fairer sex.
I think it's cool that she ran.
Uh not Rupp's fault his 10k comp sucks.
