The trials are the pinnacle of distance running in the US , I vote the guy does something about it.
There are 300 people who ran sub 2:20 the last 2 years? Doubtful.
We are talking about a marathon, putting on an event and drawing spectators. Why do even smaller marathons get more spectators than the trials?
It's called an estimate- does 200+ make you happier? Making the Olympic Trials should be an honorable achievement- 200+ is too many, and very very rarely do you get a 2:20+ guy who can drop enough time to get close enough to making the Olympic Team (as Trent Briney did with his 4th in 2004). Having 120-140 present still helps development, while achieving the sole purpose of selecting the Olympic Team. The bottom line is they lowered the standards, it won't hurt development, there's still going to be media coverage, and Ed is trying to be publicly open about why Houston was the better pick and put pressure on LA to match the prize money support offered by Houston. If there's any complaining that should be done it should be directed towards Max for picking the lesser offer.
