"Women using men's names has zero meaning and purpose anyway..."
Yeah, I don't understand why any woman would want to be called Joey.
I knew a guy who did, but that's because his last name was Gay. In that case it makes sense. I've heard of other men who have done it for the same reason, their own last name is something embarrassing.
I've never heard it for any other reason, and you would have to be pretty p-whipped to cave in to something like that. Might as well start trying on her clothes next.
I knew a guy called Dave Dickman. He kept his last name but his wife kept hers and insisted that the kids take here as well. If I were him I might have taken her name.
I hyphenated when I married my wife, Mary Armstrong.

Why would he ever change that name????
I would take Sheila Reid's last name. If she would marry me. Sigh...

What is your last name? Some people really do have an awful last name where the opportunity could be seized to change it.
I knew a woman whose maiden name was Greathead. She couldn't get married fast enough.
I knew a woman named Holly Goodhead. Here's a picture for proof:

That would make you the most beta male in existence. I hope she gets a good strap on as a wedding gift.

This may be the truest thing ever posted on LR.
For the record, my wife and I created a new last name when we got married. My birth name was dreadful and I had spent my entire life spelling and pronouncing a Czech name with far too many consonants. My wife's birth name was terminally common and boring, so we invented a new one out of whole cloth that is easy to pronounce, easy to spell, attractive and uncommon without being bizarre.

So you found this thread from a google search? By the way, there is still more work to be done on the NOP/Salazar/Farah/Rupp front.
I'm very happy with my wife's name.
How quaint people still getting married in this enlightened age. The only couple I know that got married are gay.
The woman who shared my life regularly labeled me her undomesticated partner and often introduced me as Throckmorton the Wonder Dog.
My friends name was chase dicker. He changed that real quick after getting married!
Good post, but didn't you feel uncomfortable that she was making so much more than you ? Most guys won't admit feeling awkward if their wife outearns them.
I've read that women who make more than men in the relationship are more likely to divorce them.
Also women in grad school and with MA/MBA/PhD-levels of degrees often have a harder time finding mates.
Finally there is a NYT article that stated how women executives who outearned their husbands underrated how much they made and the men declined to be interviewed for the article.
I know a guy who took his wife's name. He's a good guy. His dad was an abusive loser, so when he got married he took his wife's name.
