The subtle scene on the pier when Mr. Stevens confronts the regrets and hollow nature of his life, leads into the scene at the bus stop.

The end of Shadowlands is up there
The pain then is part of the happiness now, that's the deal.
Another vote for Gallipoli. Very troubling to think about still.
several scenes...Rudy
final scene of shawshank makes me tear up

When Ted Danson comes onto the screen in Saving Private Ryan. It spoils the entire movie. It is both the saddest and one of the funniest scenes in film history.
That threw me out of the movie, too. Not sure why. All I could think was "there's Ted Danson." I didn't think "there's Tom Hanks" at the beginning of the movie. Or "there's Matt Damon" when he showed up.
End of American History X.
Rudy is one of my least-favorite movies I've ever seen. It's absolutely awful. Are you an idiot?

Death scenes usually don't make me cry. But these sure did: the end of Field Of Dreams when he asks his father to play catch and you see all the cars showing up.
The end of Always when Richard Dreyfuss lets go of Holly Hunter.
When ET flies away on the spaceship leaving Elliot behind. WHen I saw this in the theater back in the year it came out. I was surrounded by grown men crying their eyes out. Sobbing.
The climactic scene in Fearless when Jeff Bridges has an anaphylactic reaction to a strawberry.
When Jenny tells Forest Gump he has a son. The end of Big when Tom Hanks returns to his normal size and he and Elizabeth Perkins have to let go of each other.
The end of Spirited Away when the girl and her parents drive away and she looks back, and you get this real sense of change and how life is this thing you can't hold on to (breaks me up just writing about this). Great movie.
The end of Annie Hall. Allen's narration over a beautifully performed version of Seems Like Old TImes.
Debra Winger saying goodbye to her kids in 'Terms of Endearment'
and
For me, the scene from 'Field of Dreams' that makes me cry every freaking time no matter how many times I've seen it is when Kevin Costner says 'Dad...wanna have a catch'
EVERY time.

excellent call. When the boys rush out of the trench knowing they will die, and when the runner doesn't make it in time to stop the next charge. Just utterly hopeless.

You shut your dirty mouth
When Luther shoots Cyrus in the beginning of Warriors. I mean, he was going to unite all the gangs.
We'll always have meat on a stick.
There are some tough scenes in Kramer v Kramer.
If you're old enough to remember it (like me), then it has to be the end of Old Yeller. What's sadder than your dog dying?
Honorable Mention: The ending of Love Story. (Especially effective when you were 16 and had a hot date at the movies).
Very little that is sadder than this

The break up scene in Take This Waltz, geez what a bummer
I recall the scene at the end of Zorba the Greek where Zorba does his dance. It was a sad scene. And they killed the lady. That was too bad.
