I thank this gentleman for his polite and informative reply. First, if the term "true collegian" was meant to refer to any college student, which I highly doubt, it is badly outdated. Under this definition, an American military veteran, to take but one example, who enrolled in college after his military service would not be a "true collegian." I find the history of the term "politically correct" to be quite interesting and certainly not the source of any disagreement between us. Whatever it's origins, it has taken on a pejorative meaning, and as I said earlier, it's most often used by close minded individuals to settle disagreements by name calling. Another poster has made the point here we ought not go out of our way to insult people, and many people feel it's acceptable to go around offending people. When challenged on it, they simply reply "That's just being PC." Whatever the origins thirty years ago, I don't think you would dispute the term "politically correct" has taken on a pejorative meaning. Thank you.
