Congrats, you took my quote out of context and made me sound stupid. Had I not just made a point about his lack of consistency over the past FIVE years that will greatly affect his next 6-8 months of training?
Your point about the other top 1500 guys not racing is a good one too, because it's proof positive that they have no reason to race on January 6. They have been running at major world and US championships for years. Hell, we've watched Manzano run a 4:17 equivalent mid-summer, the difference is he also runs 3:50ish every year.
And if you read what people say about Alan on this website, you'd know that plenty of us WANT him to do well. Refusing to butter up a shitty performance at any time of year is not wishing ill-will on the poor guy. It's rationale that sits below your rosey-eyed optimism.
