Any more stupid questions?"
Hey, SmartestLetsRunner: go to the first sentence of that article. Now, take a look at the 5th word--what is the difference between that word and last night's Oxy race?

"Because those guys went into that race with the goal of getting a qualifier while also getting in a good race atmostphere."
Send me one article or link where Wheating, Manzano, or Lomogn *explicitly* says he is going for the A standard at this meet.
On the front page of letsrun, there is an article about Nick Willis being perfectly -- and in the words of the Brojo's, "rightly" -- happy with not having the 1500m A-Standard yet. Is it so hard to believe that in mid-May, some of the guys who raced last night are feeling the same way?

"Championship"?
Exactly, you f#cking moron.
Oxy was a time trial, and the b!tches in the field didn't even go with the pacemakers provided. Meanwhile, 17 year-olds from east Africa run faster in - you got it, genius - a championship race.
This is why none of these girls will even make the final at WC.

They lagged well of a rabbit who did his job perfectly for no reason at all other than they were being pussies.
Or maybe because they were not in that kind of form yet and it would be physically difficult to handle that pace right now.

Four American men and three American women made the 1500m finals last time.

Three Americans made the final last time. Two were in this race and I think Wheating has a pretty decebnt shot.
There are now 10 Kenyans with the 'A' standard but 7 of them will not get to go to the WC and at least one will be ruined by the Kenyan system going into the meet.
A Kenyan may still win the Gold. The cream will rise and they are pretty good.

If that's the case why have Willis run that pace? He was TOLD a pace to run that the athletes wanted. None of them went with it when the race got going. Not being able to handle the pace is called being a pussy.
Congratulations to Willis for delivering. Hopefully he was paid well for his efforts.
As for the rest of the guys, why were you there? Anyone?
Several of those guys PRed. Wheating ran like his second fastest time ever. Manazano and Lomong have not rounded into form yet. Tegs been focused on longer distances. Jagers been injured and 338 is GREAT for him considering he just started running again a couple months ago. The real issue is getting Willis to pace and go through in 253 was unnecessary. The race itself was good and most guys ran well. Its May.
I honestly think a lot of those guys were holding back because Wheating was. I mean, there's being uncomfortable at a really fast pace and then there's going through in 61. Wheating stated in the flotrack interview that he was racing strictly to win.
hm i guess but wrote:

When we look back at 2011 for these guys we will look a few things.
Did they make the team, what did they place at USATF.
What was their fastest time of the year.
What place did they get at Worlds.
How well did they race in the international competitions.
This race won't even be thought of again.
Now, the reason you set a rabbit to go out at qualifying pace is so the athletes can get a feel to gauge where they are and where they need to be.
And if someone feels it now, they had a chance to get the qualifier out of the way.
Wheating was only 1.5s off. Right in range.
Webb ran 3:37 is Feb and was bashed on here... I've been saying it for months and I'll say it again... Webb and Wheating will be duking it out as the US' best miler... he will be low-3:30s... and Lomong will be left off the team.
