They could not run with these women, ever.
They would not be taller, faster, or more basketball athletic.
There are at least 3 women the can dunk at UCONN.
They could not beat these women in a fight, decathlon, and certainly not a basketball game.
They would leave the court battered, bruised, and thoroughly beaten.
If you want people to respect your sport, you better respect theirs.
fools!
To point #1 - you are right, they couldn't run WITH them, the UCSB men's XC team would be running past them/in front of them from about 10 minutes on, if not earlier.
To point #2:
The UCONN women's starting line up consists of one girl who is 6'4 and has been reported on this thread to have about a 1" vertical (I cannot confirm nor deny this), a girl that is 6'0, and 3 girls who are 5'10. Size advantage somewhat out the window. I couldn't find the heights of some of the UCSB guys, but somebody pointed out that the 1:50 800m guy was about 6'3 or 6'4. To the speed, see above - some of the UCONN women may be sprint faster than some of the UCSB guys, but none will be past 10 minutes. As for "basketball athletics", if the UCSB guys can dribble, pass, and shoot well then their better fitness and potential size/leaping ability (if it is there - still no numbers on this) could make up for their lack of basketball knowledge and set pieces.
To point #3:
I would like to see this. The key though will be dunking in a game scenario with defenders around you. As been pointed out, it would be tough for the UCONN women who can dunk to outsprint any of the UCSB guys down the court. Running up and dunking uninterrupted to the basket doesn't matter in a game setting - game ability does.
To point #4:
What does a fight or decathlon have to do with any of this? As for the beating either side would take - tentatively I would take the UCONN women in the fight, but the decathlon would be a WHOOOOLE different story.
To point #5:
I am a bit confused who they would leave the court batter, bruised, and thoroughly beaten if none of the rest of your argument holds water.
To point #6:
They are certainly not disrespecting the women's basketball or the UCONN women's team in any capacity. As they have apparently stated a few times, this was just an idea they apparently had to raise money for charity, it caught fire, and they had no intention to disrespect the UCONN women. They acknowledged that they would probably lose and potentially get embarrassed. I have seen zero disrespect by these guys towards the UCONN women.
With all this said, it still comes down to he said, she said BS. Nobody knows how the UCSB guys are at basketball, how tall/big they are or how high they can jump, how they can shoot, etc. All this is speculation one way or another.
