Here is the problem--I list reasons why Edwards should be AOY, while you list reasons he should not. Well, I think my reasons why he should be AOY far outnumber your reasons that he should not--and most of your reasons are not legit. For instance--going undefeated in just 2 events as KK did is not incredible at all--no matter how you want to slice it or dice it. Well, I will list honestly why Edwards should NOT be AOY--and let's see if anyone else has the integrity to honestly try to list legit reasons for him to get AOY--then maybe we can see each others' reasoning.
(1) Edwards is past his prime
Scratch that reason--it isn't legit because he made #1 w/o being in his prime and that does make his efforts this year outstanding. Try again:
(1) Edwards is an older white guy and you can't have two whites--him and Paula getting AOY in the same year.
Scratch that--it is only a political reason--not legit. Try again:
(1) Edwards did not go undefeated.
Scratch that, too. Number one is still number one despite depth of field. Since Edwards competed entire season he took risks losing #1 that he didn't have to. AOY should not back down for competing just because he isn't feeling at his very best. For this reason alone KK should not even be considered for AOY. Try again:
(1) Edwards did not set a WR.
Scrath that--he jumped not that far from WR once--plus he owns WR--so not breaking own WR at his advance age should not be held against him. Again--#1 is #1--records need idea conditions that don't always occur--and again if Edwards had set a WR I would definitely expect drugs to be involved. So, I should say that his NOT setting WR should increase his chances of getting AOY--what a paradox but in our drug culture, I think deciding to give AOY based solely on WR is sending the wrong message completely. WR should be last possible consideration for AOY and thrown out as a criteria if at all possible. Luckily in Edwards' case we can throw that criteria out and be very happy.
(1) Not enough world class athletes compete in Triple Jump.
Scrath that answer--sorry. If that is the premises then KK should never get any consideration--much less should Paula Radcliffe. Nobody was complaining when Banks jumped that there weren't enough competitors for Triple--but you hear that a lot now because Edwards has been so dominant for so long. Plus--saying there is not enough comp is a political reason--just like saying Edwards is too white.
Ok I give up--I cannot think of one single solitary legitamte reason why Edwards should not get AOY versus anyone else or for any other reason. But I tried. Now see if you can try seeing it from my side. And when you try to scratch several reasoning like I just did--I want to see you do that--I would enjoy such attempt at logic whether it be sound or unsound.
