I should also add; Nakamura is only 21 years old.
Here's Takahashi struggling at 30k:
This was my first chance to go see a major marathon in Japan. Watched the start at home on TV. Then my son and I jumped on the subway and went down to the corner by the Hisaya-odori subway entrance. The runners came by there three times without too much time between each passing.
This is in the downtown area of Nagoya. I thought we'd just walk up and stand by the course. I was amazed, we arrived well before the race passed but it was already packed, about five people deep all along the roads. Many running clubs out in their warm-ups. Small corporate flags had been handed out up and down the course.
It was great to see the enthusiasm of the crowd. Beautiful, sunny day with literally no wind.
Great experience. As we left you could see a number of people dashing down to the Meijo subway line to get down to Mizuho area before the runners would arrive back at the stadium.
70k training days = not focused?
To the Lydiard crowd way of thinking, she should be tireless, but truthfully she just looked tired.
