i wish somebody would give me a full ride:)

Ditto. This kid is going to be trouble if he is so controlled by a father who demands "a full ride, or nothing". On the other hand, my brother-in-law is head coach and Backhand Community College in El Paso and will be contacting Mr. Fernandez right away to offer a full ride. German has a tough row to hoe, atmospheric expectations and a controlling father. He needs to go pro next week, then he will get what is most important to daddy....money.
Is he a U.S. citizen??

The controlling part, maybe so. But he deserves a full ride, despite the shortage of scholarships.
no way.... wrote:

Of course he is.
A great kid with an amazing future.
His coach ( Bruce Edwards ) at Riverbank High is actually the tennis coach there and has based German's training over the years from Jack Daniels. The guy runs 4:00.29 / 8:34.23 ALL BY HIMSELF yesterday!
OK State is gonna be loaded.
He has signed with Oklahoma State I have been told. I ran there from 1971 to 1975 and one of my old teamates just sent me an e-mail last week stating that he had signed with OSU. I checked it out on the Oklahoma State University Athletics website, and they make reference to it as well. They finished 3rd in the NCCA Cross County meet this past season and, I believe, they have most everyone back including the addition of this phenom.

whoops, i didn't realize the thread was already dead, forgot I was looking at the like, billionth page of the forum. My bad ^^
Over? I say this thread is just getting started...
OK State? Uh, what? If true, one of the worst decisions since Franklyn Sanchez chose Georgetown...
oregon will still beat them(ok state) next year. unless german thinks he has anything to say about that.

why? they got 3rd at Nationals last year. That means that he only had two more options.
Is T. Boone Pickens getting involved in the XC program now too?
german is a great fit for OK State. You fools who don't know anything should GTFO! I've talked to Coach Dave Smith, he's a great guy and even better coach. He's doing great things there, obviously by getting 3rd at nationals and then recruiting german, colby lowe, and ryan prentice. Look for OK State to compete for the NCAA title this year along with Oregon!
He chose Oklahoma State University for a good reason. Great Coach....great teammates and one of the best cross county courses in the nation. It is a special place. I was fortunate to run there from 1971 to 1975 (coached by Tom Von Ruden my freshman year). Dave Smith is a remarkable coach. I am thankful that he is there and look forwad to their becoming a national power. I was fortunate enough to be ther in a time frame where we won two Big 8 championships in 72 and 73 and placed 7th and 5th in the NCAAs those years. This team is better than that, in my opinion. I believe Fernandez is the best US midd;e distanc/distance runner to come out of the US in years. In my opinion, he is like Alan Webb...that good. Am so glad he chose OSU, as it has a tradition of distance runners and comraderie among those guys....my teammates and I were very close. We also had, in the early 70s a several major sprinters, Jim Bolding (who I still think holds the 440 yd. intermediat hurdle world record, Dennis Shultz, who was a spectacular sprinter, and others like Leonard Thompson who went on to play for the Detroit Lions amd other succesful sprinters who helped us as an overall track team.
OSU is a great place for the right recruit. Dave Smith is an outstanding coach, and we are lucky to have him in the dusty, red dirt town of Stillwater, OK.
Your post sounds good, but you will never convince anyone that Stillwater Ok is the place to be for runners.
