No she did not. She ran 10 seconds slower than her PR in the biggest race of her life. Why would you say she ran a great race?
This performance obviously exceeded her Bryan Clay race PB. That race was more evenly paced, in much cooler conditions.
And it may very well be that if Valby had just gone out front and tried to even-split this race, she may have PR’d today; we will never know. It would have changed the dynamics of the overall race.
But nonetheless, running in the pack with the top in the world, for the first time, was the better learning opportunity.

No way. Here she was perfectly tapered and on a massive stage. Just a choke job and couldn't handle the moment.
That is the response of someone incredibly stupid, and/or an obvious troll.
Just getting to the start line of this Olympic final was a huge win, particularly with the rumors being floated yesterday that an alternate had been called up.
But Valby, the rookie, not only showed and raced admirably, but she also took some huge European scalps, like McColgan, Van Es, Keith, etc.
It was nothing less than a big, positive step forward for her today.
For her to still be with the lead pack with 2 laps to go (albeit in a slow race by recent historical standards) is great experience for her and gives her a good teste of global competition at the highest level. I wouldn't be surprised to see her improve and be able to run sub 30:00. But I doubt she'll ever really be a factor in the 10,000m because she has no kick. Marathon maybe....

You sound like a complete dick, or a useless troll. A 'complete choke job' would have been running say, 32:00 or something like that. She ran 9 seconds off her PR in a very unevenly split race, in her first Olympics, in the type of pack running she's not used to yet as she has basically ZERO international experience. Seems to me she did very very well, but there are always going to be pinheads out there; this is LRC after all.

If she went out front hard the rest of the field would've just let her go, concentrating on placing then absorbed her and she would've been toast from running alone. We've seen this happen with the Japlanese runners when they try this.
11th is an excellent result for a 21 year old college runner. You can only do so much when your PR is over a minute slower than so many competitors. It amazes me that she isn't complete toast after having to peak so many times this year. I think she did great and showed a ton of heart. Her stock continues to rise.

It is understandable if you haven’t followed her story, because you obviously have not seen her races over the past year, in which she soloed a lot of them from the front. So she is capable of running alone, unpaced, without pace lights, running to the limit of her fitness.
For example, google search “Bryan Clay Parker Valby” video as an example, when she set her PR a few months ago in her 10000m debut.
I mean I hope she proves me wrong but you basically got to be sub 355 1500 to compete on the track right now in women's running
What are you talking about? There are only 10 women IN THE WORLD who have run sub-3:56 in 2024 and only 6 have gone sub-3:55. These are 1500m runners. We are talking about a 10000m runner here. Gudaf Tsegay is the ONLY women in the world in 2024 to run sub-31:00 and sub-4:00. Not even Hassan has done both in 2024.

Nico was 5 seconds off of his PR.
When Nico ran 26:53 I think he came through 5K in 13:31ish
Nico came through 5K in 13:25 in Paris.
Valby was 9 seconds off of her PR.
During Valby's 30:50 effort, she hit 5K in 15:30.1
I don't have lap splits, but Valby came through 5K in 15:50 today.
Nico finished 15 seconds behind Cheptegei and Fisher, whose PR's are about 51 and 20 seconds faster.
Valby finished 16 seconds behind Chebet, whose PR is an ENTIRE 2 MINUTES faster.
Both Valby and Nico performed excellently for global debuts, but if you think Nico's performance was significantly better, I don't think you understand what you are watching.

She has some faster PR’s than Hassan at the same age; so there is that, super-shoes notwithstanding.

I am serious. Did Hocker choke his firt final? No. Neither did Fisher. Neither did Nuguse. Neither did Kessler. They all PR'd. They all had zero international experience and showed out. There was nothing impressive about her race other than she was in the race.

I am saying nothing about Nico. The fact that Chebet jogged this race goes to show how far behind Valby actually is when they race fast. Chebet just didnt need to run fast today in this slow tactical race. Thats the only reason Valby wasnt way off the winning time.
That’s not apples to apples. There was more depth in the men’s 10000m.
LMAO no there wasn't. Valby raced 3 world record holders.
I mean, technically so did Nico: Cheptegei 5000 and 10000, Kiplimo half marathon, Kejelcha indoor mile. Hell, you could even count Aregawi if you like (road 5k). I see the general point though.

It absolutely, in no way, was not, in your words, “a choke job”, stupido gringo trollio.
Agree, Valby ran a great race. There were 25 of the best women distance runners in the world and she finished 11th. Pre race, I thought Valby might crack the top 10. There were 8 Ethiopians and Kenyans in the race. Had to concede those positions before shooting the gun.
Valby critics should give her a break. Her first serious race as a pro was the Olympics 10000 final. She competed at the highest level did well.
