The shape Jakob is in they would have to run sub world record pace. Remember that mile/3k last year at the Pre meet last year. He ran just a about world record pace two days in a row. He is incredibly strong. That mile/3k combination last year was freakin insane
Put it in your head. A modder of LRC said it some days ago.
The 800m is not the speed of the 5000m.
The trial times of Jakob in the 1500m will never be the speed for 5000m.
He is not a runner naturally built for longer distances.
Who are you?
What are you saying?
I remember when Jakob narrowly lost to Gebriwhet in that 13:02 race where they both closed in like 52, and people would act like you were crazy for acting like that suggested sub 13 fitness. The "you're not faster than your PR until you run it" crowd really enjoys be annoying like that for some reason.
It's the same deal with the people now who think 12:48 closing in 56 from 3 years ago represents his current limit in the 5000. As if 7:54 means nothing, lol...
I understand being skeptical of sub 12:30, but as others have said, there's no way that Jakob is any slower than 12:40 ABSOLUTE MINIMUM in a TT 5000.
Anyone who feels confident in their abilities to front-run (or work with a teammate) to any mark under 1245 should attempt to do so.
The rounds and heat will take more of a toll in the 5K, and most runners will be on their 2nd event in the 10K and 1500.
You might not be able to beat Jakob in that way, but I'd bet a mark under 1245 guarantees a medal.
Who in the field can front run a 1245 in the final after rounds? Would need to be in sub 1240 shape and that only leaves hagos maybe? but he’s a favorite to win so he won’t do it. the race will be 1250-55 at the fastest, and at that pace Jakob will have no issue sitting on the leaders.
Jakob is the Kerr of the 5K. he can run a fast race (maybe not the fastest but within a few seconds) or he can kick off a slow pace. basically unbeatable. the difference in the 1500 is that it is shorter and therefore less taxing to lead for a couple laps. plus the heat doesn’t hurt as much. And lastly, Jakob will actually do it and force a fast pace, whereas the Ethiopians and Ugandans will not in the 5K

Was thinking Kejelcha. He doesn't appear to be in the field.
Think the point still stands for any mark under 12:50 tbh.
