Thats pretty fvcking good. Though it is 100% the shoes. If you adjust estimated improvements because of shoe technology it still increases but a lot less much.
It's probably a combination of better training methods, shoes, better foods.. Etc.
I know when I graduated high school in 1998 that there were nowhere near this many good runners nationwide.
Also this site contributes alot to better times. When you can come on here and see what everyone else is doing, etc.
You have seen how much improvement the shoes give. If they did not help why would they be advertised as such. I also want to note that I am pretty sure California does not allow spikes on CC courses. That could explain why Gfs record has stood through the best team ever.

Or maybe GF was just really fast? His 4:00/8:34 double, running solo was better than anything the NP guys did in their HS career.

"Why would Nike, a self-interested corporation, market their products as being more effective than the competition?" Really a stumper, that one.
Niwot and Real Training are some of the worst offenders in the arena.
The case of sour apples for the BoCO people is crazy. Haters gonna hate... I wonder if that hate will shift to Schwartz if AAHS manages to win NXN again this year?

Personally, and I’m biased, but I think GF was the greatest of all time for a prep, who never fulfilled his potential. That 4:00 would be a 3:56-3:58 in super shoes, and the 8:34 for sure sub-8:30 but probably closer to 8:25. All solo. Depending on the runner, the shoes are worth 1 sec per lap +/-.
Now, does that diminish from all of the superb performances currently being run? No, sub-8:50, even if it translates to 8:57 in the “old days” (pre-Covid) is still very fast. And guys were running 8:40s in the 1970s, just not en masse. Craig Virgin comes to mind. Another bad ass. The 70s were an era where kids were running higher volume though, and perhaps we’ve returned to that, but smarter.
